Visited there recently with a group on a Saturday evening and first of all, the view is indeed spectacular. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the food. I had a soup starter which could have been hotter, so am assuming it had sat around...for a while before being served although the flavour was reasonable. A steak that was a little tough but was cooked as requested - followed by a chocolate brownie with ice cream. Now a chocolate brownie is not haute cuisine by any stretch of the imagination - and this certainly wasn't - it was dry and lacked any level of richness and flavour - if it have been wonderful I might have looked past the fact that the portion size was slightly larger than my thumb accompanied by a dessert spoon size knob of ice cream. As for the other diners in our group, there was salad which was "mostly leaves" and a desert which wasn't impressing either (not the brownie). In balance my husband did rave about the shellfish he had as a starter so perhaps it's hit and miss. I can say there was no issues with the service, it was busy but we were tended to well for the most part. However on the food front, my overall impression was of a restaurant that is falling well short of where they're pitching themselves. This is at the pricier end of the market but for me, needs to do much better.More

I have visited Eighteen Ninety Four on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. The food is a league ahead of any other restaurant in the area, the service is very professional and friendly, but the views really make this place special. Watching sunset with...a glass of wine and an incredible meal is an experience to cherishMore

I visited 1894 restaurant lately and to say that my family and I will not be back is an understatement. Definitely would not recommend it. The menu is very limited and over priced. The two men in our party ordered the chicken supreme but one...was less than half the size of the other. He had also ordered pepper sauce but got gravy instead. We mentioned this to the waitress but she was dismissive and never returned with any pepper sauce. That wasn't too big a deal. Myself and my sister weren't terribly hungry so both ordered starters with 2 sides each. We had ordered a few rounds of drinks with our food. When our table was being cleared by a different waitress, she asked us if everything was ok. I mentioned again about the size of the chicken portions and the gravy instead of pepper sauce. She said the gravy was peppery and shrugged her shoulders before she left. It's what happened next that really made our blood boil. When we went to pay for the meal my sister spoke to whom i presume was the manager, Chris, as he was beside the till at the time. She told him about the chicken portion and before she could say anything else he told us that he had 150 people in this evening and "i don't have time for this" and walked away, leaving us with our mouths open. We felt completely insulted. It was obvious that our custom was not important. It was obvious that his other customers were more important than us. My sister then asked at the bar what his surname was and was told they didn't know. As we were leaving, chris came after us into the corridor and caught my sister by the shoulder to tell her that his surname was Rolston and tapped each letter out on her shoulder. We were completely shocked and could not believe the brass neck on him. Mr Rolston then turned to go back in to the restaurant but i was so offended. I started to speak to him again to say that how he had spoke and dealt with us was very insulting and rude. He tried to say that we were asked was everything ok and I explained exactly what happened. He did say sorry for not getting pepper sauce but i told him it wasn't that the food wasn't the biggest problem, that it was how he spoke to us and dismissed us like he couldn't get rid of us quick enough. He then proceeded to try and justify it by saying " sure you only had a starter anyway". WELL. What???? I could not believe what I was hearing. Instead of an apology he was really showing his true colours. It shouldn't matter if I ordered a steak or a coffee. Surely the service, manners and common courtesy that goes with it should be the same no matter what. I am not sure who this man thinks he is but if I owned a cafe never mind a restaurant, i would be sacking him. He should not deal with customers. He was down right rude. I could say a lot more but you get the jist.More

This was our first time to visit here and we really enjoyed it. The food was delicious but a bit on the pricey side but worth it. Make sure you ask for a table by the window as the views from the restaurant are unreal!...The atmosphere of the restaurant could be improved with some background music and decor is a bit bland. Other than that we had a lovely evening!More

Excellent dinner and service tonight. Birthday dinner - cocktails were luscious . Viognier wine was a great choice. All the staff were lovely and helpful. Damien, brand new to the job, was great. Duck and pork starters were tasty. We all had ribeye for main...course which was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended. Only downside was the small children running about although the staff tried their best to control them.More

Views is amazing and definitely one of your biggest assets. Food was delicious although with everything pre ordered a week in advance at your request I would have thought that everyons meal and side ordereds would have come together. The customer service overall from booking...until leaving the premises on the night was alot to be desired to the extent that the man in charge came across as extremely rude. I don't very often leave reviews but felt that how our booking was dealt with warrantied me to high light some points for your business to improve on. The Bar closed at 11pm with no prior warning before the night We also hired a private DJ for entertainment for the whole evening but unfortunately he was ask to finish his music at 11 so our night come to a very quick and quiet end. Extremely disappointing after expecting so much more from a well established environment.More

Visited here on Sunday 26th June. my companion started with a duck croquette that had an ample amount of duck...enough for two! i had the large portion of hake with sides for main whilst my companion had a good portion of lamb. i also had...the excellent strawberry dessert. I would not say the meal was cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. But excluding all the above it was the little extras that made this so memorable: amuse bouche pre-starter, then a little mini bowl of soup of the day and after the main a sorbet each....all free plus superb views of the beach and ocean Last but by no means least, the attentive and very friendly service provided by Ami and Clodagh our main waitresses both courteous to a fault. Memorable.More

As part of the Browns Bonds Hills group of restaurants, it, like many other restaurants these days, classify themselves as ‘Fine Dining’, and it is, to a point. However you still enter through the questionable/confused decor of the golf club and if you are fortunate...and get a window table you are rewarded with spectacular views of the strand. We were greeted immediately and shown to our table, water was brought as were some breads and a dip which was a nice touch. We opted for the three courses with matching wines for starter and main course. The plates were nicely presented in good time and cooked to a good standard. The sides were limited and the salads quite disappointing. However when one pays £27 for a steak the fine dining experience needs to be accompanied by fine service and this is probably the main gripe I would have. Instead of being allocated an individual server for the evening we had 4 different staff in various styles of dress and demeanour. Smarted up the service and maybe expand the menu and this could be a really good spot.More

We dined as part of a large party and all guests were impressed with their meals - we ordered a...variety of dishes including steaks, vegetarian options and seafood and all were superb.
