Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited the Alverton today for afternoon tea . I had won this experience in a prize draw so was excited to visit. I have to say the whole experience was mediocre. Several mix ups with coffees and the most of the food was disappointing. Scones...were good. One highlight was the supervisor on duty at 2.30 who was efficient and helpful . Other staff seemed to lack training. Disappointed!More

We had been gifted a voucher for an Afternoon Tea at the Alverton, but I had since needed to follow a dairy free diet. On booking they enquired about dietary needs, again on arrival. Out came the most wonderful dairy free afternoon tea!! My husband...had the standard version and everything had been matched so I don't miss out on any elements. I feel the team went above and beyond to create something that was as good (if not better) than the regular afternoon tea!! We were offered top ups on tea, and didn't feel rushed and even ordered a cocktail to complete our afternoon out.More

On a very wet day, we thought how could we cheer ourselves up. We went to the Alverton Manor and found the reception staff to be very courteous and helpful. My wife and I had a delicious three Course meal. Recommend the Kedgeree with the...crispy poached egg. We were waited on by Charlie Roberts who couldn’t do enough for us, without being over the top. Very friendly and courteous! We will definitely go back there again.More

We visited the Alverton as a group for lunch and had the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant by a mile. There was a catalogue of mistakes, delays and appalling attitude from staff. Ater 2 hours we left still not having eaten....Management seem to think that wiping the bill is an acceptable response. To add salt the wound when we complained we were gaslit and invalidated. For example, we complained some (actually most) food was burned the manager tried to say we were complaining that it was too hot. No one complains food is " too hot" you just wait for it to cool down a little. Our food was black/burned and not only that but served up 3 times (cold, burned, then with the burned outer layer scraped off). Staff were chaotic and didn't seem to know what they were supposed to be doing. Welcome to hospitality in Brexit Britain. Very expensive and very poor.More

6 of us went for a double birthday celebration. Ambience of the hotel and restaurant is wonderful. The staff all greeted us with smiles. Food was amazing especially the smoked salmon staters. I’m awkward with a shell fish allergy and the staff were extremely helpful,...although I was disappointed when the chef refused to serve me the sole. Totally understandable as it was delivered with shellfish so possibly contamination. Full marks to them for standing their ground lol. The steak was amazing and best triple cooked chips ever.More

The service was so slow, it took so long for our food to come out and then our plates to be taken away and for us to be asked if we would like a dessert and then for them to come out as well! Fair...enough if everything is cooked fresh but it was just so slow! I personally wasn’t keen on the roast beef, it was very well done and quite chewy, the side vegetables were quite hard, perhaps not cooked enough, everyone who had the turkey said it was very nice but thought the same about the vegetables. Was quite disappointed. The salted caramel ice cream & chocolate ice cream were both very tasty!More

What a delight.  The Taste of Truro evening was all about the vegetables and local seasonal produce. Each course was talked through by the chef Ollie, who was clearly passionate and proud about what he and his team does and the local produce that he...uses.  Hearing the explanation, ingredients and where they had been sourced, behind each of the courses was a great element of the evening and really helped you to appreciate what you were eating. I particularly liked hearing about the local goat’s cheese and how passionate the chef was to be using this again in his menu.   Each of the courses was beautifully presented.  Five out of the six courses were served cold which was a first for me, but worked really well, suited the dishes and the weather.  The one hot course was watercress and celeriac risotto which was incredible with the crispy cavolo nero.  Just great flavour and texture.  I would order this every time.   The cold lettuce soup was refreshing and something different. The chef’s menu had me trying things I would have never considered and created a lot of conversation around the room. I had the accompanying wine flight which complimented each course beautifully. The evening was relaxed and unhurried, the staff were friendly, the venue is beautiful and the food was simply amazing. I hope this vegetarian Taste of Truro is held again in the future.More

Beautiful building, visited whilst staying nearby on holiday. Service a little disjointed, we were left alone for about 15 minutes and had to ask to order. I ordered a Caesar with a side of tempura veg which, when it came, was all clumped together in...one big mass. Other food was lovely. Again left after mains and eventually asked for the bill as we’d gone off the idea of dessert. Very nice setting and quiet, peaceful ambience.More

We had lunch here for my partners birthday last week. We cannot fault the beautiful building, the gardens or the staff, who were helpful and polite. Booked last minute to enjoy an afternoon tea for 2 as a birthday treat; enjoyed the experience from start to finish. Lovely comfortable dining area, calm atmosphere, and professional service. Overhearing us talk about my birthday yesterday it was a lovely gesture of them to...ask if they might give us each a complimentary glass of Prosecco to enjoy with our tea; sandwiches and cakes were all lovely, at first we thought the 2 scones a little small, but with the very rich cakes as well found it all too much for us to eat in one sitting so appreciated the ability to take some home in a box for later. On a sunnier, drier day would be nice to sit out and enjoy the beautiful grounds.More
