We took a trip to Le Mogador on the coast at ROYAN for a family lunch .One of our first eating out experiences and our first trip to the coast post Lockdown in the UK .We had a lovely table in this bright airy restaurant...overlooking the busy port .Tables were socially distanced ,masks worn in and out of restaurant and by staff at all times ,and hand sanitiser readily available . The food was absolutely delicious .I had the plat de jour 3 course 20€ my husband the seafood platter and kids cod and steak respectively .Empty plates all round and we were made so welcome and comfortable despite the necessary precautions taken. A little off the beaten track with a wonderful view of the now busy port . A joy . Thank you to all at Le Mogador .The Hubbard family will be backMore

This restaurant is a bit away from the tourist area and really worth of visit. They open at 19, not 18 as mentioned on the web. The welcome was friendly and we got a nice table with a view. The decoration is modern and stylish....Their menu is quite rich; lot of seafood and fish. We had langustines - a very nice portion on ice. Fresh and tasty. For desert we shared a plate of different cheeses ( actually recommended for aperitif) - rich and tasty. The local white wine was excellent. Quality/price very good. So I can recommend this place for a good meal!More

We got off the bac at Royan and found this restaurant. Tuna tartare with an asian twist was a delight, fresh and tasty. I then had the aubergine and fish burger, my partner had the scallops, both dishes were delicious. Unfortunately i think the waitress...was learning, as we had to ask for bread and cutlery.(lose a point for the service) The view over the fishing port is nice and relaxing, and the deco in the restaurant good. Couscous and tajines were also on the menu, but we didnt try them - next time. 😊😋More

Squid, smelts, and fish rillettes... a simple lunch from the sea, and given this cluttered and uncared for restaurant overlooked the ocean, you could be forgiven for thinking a treat was in store. Without being back of house, its hard to say for certain that...the calamari and smelts came out of a freezer bag, but calamari with bright orange breadcrumbs is at least an indicator. Not lightly dusted with a quick dip through the fryer, more jailed in crunchy crumbs and murdered in boiling oil. Then the smelts; you know that wonderful taste of freshly fried whitebait - a little crunch on the outside and a mouth popping of fresh succulent fish. Well these poor little devils limped onto the plate, exhausted by their time in the fryer which given their sogginess might have been that morning, followed by a journey through a microwave. Enough about the food, you get the picture. This place needs a chef who respects the food and if they think they are already doing a good job, then maybe some lessons from someone who knows better. And clean up the restaurant it was a mess. In the end, we sampled a bit of what was on our plate, and sent it back. It was edible but not by people who enjoy well prepared and well cooked food. We offered to pay for the bottled water but refused to pay for lunch; the manager was not happy and invited us to 'get out'. No discussion about why the food was poor, how they might improve, or even an offer to prepare something else (although we would have politely declined) - just a discourteous exchange and we departed. Our advice - there is better in Royan, and unless this place says 'new chef employed' then stay away.More

Cosy restaurant with a very friendly and helpful young waiter. Starters were pleasant (avocado/tomato/crevettes) for my husband and myself and our daughter chosen for the salad with magret fumé, lardons, grillon/pate charentais (even her small portion was huge for a starter). My husband chosen the...best dish: Sole! I had the risotto with st jacques, and an enormous gamba and daughter had moules orientale. It was nice, but I wouldn't order is anymore. My husband had a coffee with a glass of cognac (please don't serve snickers with it again....but a wrapped plain piece of chocolate or nothing). I had an Irish Coffee (without snickers ;-) ) and daughter a the gourmand, 3 small desserts is not exactly what I call 'gourmand'. The restaurant serves also dishes from Morocco which made them different to other restaurants. Next time I'll have one of the tagines. The rating I would give is between 3 and 4, however, the 4 because of the waiter.More

This place is worth seeking out. We Found le Mogador on our last night in Royan, tucked away amongst sheds in the port. It has the most amazing views of the port and across to St Georges de Didonne from the terrace. We were the...only English eating at the time. Other tables were flamboyant and happily enthusiastic over huge platters of fruit de mer, topped with enormous crabs or steaming platters of cous cous royale. We ate a more reserved dinner, starting with a fabulous champagne & brandy cocktail and a plate of the plumpest oysters, excellent fish soup, with all the trimmings, then chicken and preserved lemon tagine for me, and flash cooked tuna for my partner. Both finished with homemade tiramisu. Best meal in Royan this year. Paid 100 euros for 3 course menu, plus extra oysters, wine, cocktails and coffee.More

I'm late in reviewing this restaurant, but we had a lovely evening there for my birthday on 27 July 2015. We wanted something different, and chose Le Mogador based on reviews on here. The food was great - and we loved the eclectic mix of...traditional French and North African dishes. The location is interesting - with views of the harbour, and we particularly loved the fact that the proprietor came and spoke with everyone dining and was absolutely charming. It made us feel looked after, and that this restaurant really cares about its reputation - something that can often feel lacking for Brits in France!More
