We tried the restaurants listed as #1, #2 and #3 on Tripadvisor. And I can only say that reverse order is my choice. Huen Luang Prabang definitely has a better location - hard to beat their river view. But food wise, Luk Phochana is the...best food we found in Chiang Khan. Actually better than a lot of restaurants in Thailand - period! We had a number of Thai dishes that we know and love and they were done to perfection. Not too spicy and not plain. The place is clean, the owner very friendly and the staff were alert and attentive. We arrived early for dinner to an empty restaurant and within minutes of being seated the place was full and loud with people enjoying the family friendly atmosphere of this restaurant.More

The operator here can't speak English. No menu in English. We have to use international sign language to communicate, but the food are good. We try a noodle soup, which is thick noodle serve in thick chicken paste, with a kind of purple colour source....We also order another bowl of noodle with the purple source, it taste nice too. They have dessert like bobo-chacha, sago which both serve whit thick coconut milk.More

It is tru, that the Thai staff ignores you, when seeing you are a foreigner, although i spoke Thai to them. After abou 15 minutes a Lady came to my table to apologizise, and gave me a menu in English. Having had a look at...their Thai menu, which is extensive i decided to wait till my Thai wife joined me. The food she ordered was just great, many special fish dishes. Than of course, everything went quickly and smooth.More

This place is great. They speak virtually no English but what do you expect in Loei? Breakfast choices are all Thai. The Jok was fantastic and only 40 baht. Seems busy in the evening and specialises in river fish. The delivery this morning looked great

Based on Tripadvisor reviews my wife and I dropped in for dinner. In a nutshell, the place was a disappointment. The service was confused, our food (all Thai dishes) apart from the pad thai which, let's face it, is hard to get wrong, was below...expectations. Even our couple of bottles of Chang didn't cheer us up. The first turned up merely cool, not cold. We indicated that and tried again and the second was the same. Throughout the meal they insisted on a Thai language tv channel blaring away at loud volume so that they and their visiting pals had to shout above it to be heard. At least on our experience, this place doesn't deserve its rating. There are surely much better places to eat in Chiang Khan.More

This is one of the oldest restaurants in town. It specializes on fish menus from the Mekong river. Other Thai dishes are also very high standard. This is one place to try when in Chiang Khan!

We ate here both nights we were in Chiang Khan. The food was really good, we generally don't order fish but had 3 different fish dishes all really tasty, and a really good Tom Yam style soup all well presented and plentiful, good Thai tastes,...we really like authentic Thai food. Not scared of heat or spice. Service was fast and friendly, waitresses do not have English. Most dishes 150-200 baht price range. The menu does have a photo of every dish which is very helpful so you can get an idea of what it is with a few basic Thai words from you for pork, chicken, fish etc. Something to be aware of - the first night we were given a tourist "farang" menu which is totally different from the restaurants' authentic menu, we knew this as we had already looked at the menu on a stand outside the restaurant during the day and had decided upon some choices, so when a different menu was presented to us when we sat with things like Pad Thai, fried rice etc in it and not the choices we wanted from the other menu we knew it was different, so we got the authentic menu. This was no big deal but be aware there is a tourist menu, it is nice of them to try as the tourist menu is in English, the authentic menu Thai only, but they are very very different. There was a really helpful jman there with basic English skills who helped. We were given the real menu the second night.More
