Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We just got into Visby and our hotel owner recommended this place in the town square. It was raining and the town is very quiet because it’s the low season. We walked in around 5:30 and the lady serving was polite but firm in saying...that they were fully booked and to basically leave (how very Swedish!). The restaurant was not full by any means. I think we are the only foreigners in Visby right now but I hope that didn’t have anything to do with it. We ended up at Gamla Masters and the lady there treated us very well.More

We had dinner there the first night and it was just so good we went back again as our farewell dinner to Visby.

Terrible food and service. The employees get visibly uncomfortable by foreigners and barely put you any attention. There are much better restaurants.

Went there for dinner during peak season in summer so we could not book a table. They do however have a bar across the road where you can have a drink while you wait for a table. Win-win. Seafood restaurant. I had the seafood soup...and I while the soup was delicious I had hoped for a few different fish in it apart from cod and whitefish. My husband had the smoked prawns. Bread and butter brought to the table in a paper bag. Bread was nice. Bread with smoked prawns was a normal white toats bread. Should have been a better bread. Wine selection somewhat lacking. Did not have a nice chardonnay. Creme brulee delicious. No low sugar dessert options. Service was outstanding.More

I’ve enjoyed visiting a number of great seafood restaurants, also in Sweden, and was happy to discover Bakfickan to be on the very top of the many wonderful experiences so far. They can make the pickled herring to truly taste fresh and tender, the soup...had all of the best bouillabaisse flavors mixed with a Scandinavian touch, and the classic favorite toast skagen was just simply delicious.More

A very lovely seafood restaurant- very tasty and very good starters, and fish soup also tastes great (slightly salty to my standard but Swedish food in general is salty to me). Very pleasant place ti have good, people watch over the Stora Torget.

Wanted fish stew when in Visby and google brought us this place. Looks cute and modest from the outside. Loved the vendace roe we had for starter (worth the £££) and the fish soup. And the homemade schnaps!

THE fish place in Visby. It is tiny inside so make sure to be prepared to sit outside which can be cold for Lunch as the sun only comes to this place towards the afternoon. The food is very fresh. The preparation is a bit...too much on the oily side. The French Fries were soaked in fat and the Herring had a lot of oil as well. The shrimps are delicious especially the smoked one are special here. You cannot reserve so either you come here early lunch (11.30 am latest) or 5 pm dinner or you have to wait for at least 20 minutes to get a table.More

We loved this place. Be there early to get a table, it's rather popular. All food tasted amazing. The appetizer herring bread was delicious.

You can easily tell that restaurant is good when there is a queue at lunchtime, and we did not get disappointed. The fried herrings were crisp and tasty as they should be.

Awful service. We had to leave without even trying any food in there: we waited in front of the reception as it was asked there during a very hot weather outside. The servant saw us and said "hi", then started preparing a table in the...shadow for us. Then a couple from another table on the terrace asked to sit on that place and the servant just allowed them to change the table although it was already prepared for us! Then she offered to sit on that table which I couldn't accept, as it was not in the shadow and I was with my resigned mother. I asked then if we can wait for another table inside as it's too hot outside and our table was just giving to another couple even without asking our opinion and, guess what, - she refused that. I think this is very disrespectful towards guests, hence I left the place and do not recommend going there unless you are ok with such situations.More
