A warm welcome to a great family room (#1). Peaceful room, comfy bed and good shower. We were travelling to south Cornwall from Essex and decided to break the trip up and this proved to be a great pick. A good example of a sympathetic...More

We stopped off for lunch on a Thursday in August and it was fabulous. There was a wedding taking place and we were a bit concerned that the staff would not have time to fuss with us but they were brilliant. I had the bacon...More

The Hollumi starter was the best we have ever had although the sauce looked like it had been on another persons plate. Sausages were under cooked which has led to an upset stomach the next morning. Staff were uninterested, uninviting and aloof. Unfortunately in the...More

We visited the Cockhaven Arms whilst we were staying with relatives who live in Bishopsteignton, who had reserved a very nice table prior to our visit. The tables were welcoming, each decorated with a thick lit candle. All of the staff were extremely helpful, and...More

Lunch here today for the 5 of us since the refurbishment (previously Cockhaven Manor). We sat in the conservatory which is light and airy, although it would be a bit of a squeeze if all tables had 5/6 people round them. The main bar is...More

I went up for a Sunday lunch after hearing recommendations from countless people about the roasts. I had the turkey roast which came with all the trimmings, the roast potatoes were AMAZING! They were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. I hadn't...More

Upon arrival we headed to the bar where we were greeted and served almost instantly, by a charming man. We were then shown to a table and informed of the specials of the day. We all only had a few light bites but couldn't fault...More

Now re-opened following extensive renovations. We have extended and developed a lovely bar and restaurant with open log fires and an intimate and cosy atmosphere which is ideal for informal eating and drinking. The new décor, lighting and the mixture of solid oak flooring, stone slabs and carpeted areas gives a friendly homely feel. The ever popular conservatory has been refurbished and is now more integrated with the bar area. We have also created 'The Wardroom' which offers a more intimate dining room for private parties and for our guests. Upstairs, the elegant landing has been sympathetically redecorated, whilst all the rooms have been extensively refurbished, some of the bedrooms have also been re-configured to create individually styled but contemporary suites, family rooms and double rooms. The changes do not stop with the building. A new Spring Menu features freshly prepared dishes, from pub favourites through to new creations reflecting contemporary English cuisine. As before, there is an extensive vegetarian selection and of course a specials board which changes daily. To go with this is a new Wine List (with over a dozen available by the glass), created by Tanners Independent Wine Merchants, local ales from Otter Brewery, as well as a leading range of other draught lagers and cider. Outside, there is a large beer garden with lovely views of the estuary, along with plenty of car parking.
