Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been out to eat there a few times recently and have been blown away by the food and the service. A couple of times we were there and it was very quiet. That suited us perfect because we only had an hour before we had...to collect the kids! Service was friendly, quick and the food was perfect. Were there last Sunday and it was packed. Again, we only had an hour before the kids were back on the scene so we were worried we'd be waiting a while for the food. We needn't have worried though. We were seated, served and out the door in 45 mins! My wife is still going on about the sweet and sour chicken she got, one of the nicest she's ever had. Overall, highly recommend for the atmosphere, service and food.More

Stopped here for lunch. Homemade vegetable soup and brown bread. Soup was really tasty and piping hot. Also had a chicken skewer starter, well presented on mixed salad. Really enjoyed both dishes Good value and good service

We popped in with a group of 4 and two dogs looking for brunch on a Sunday early afternoon. The place was empty still so they let us take a few tables outside with the doggies. The service was good and the food tasty. I...wish they had some sort of breakfast / brunch offering as we ended up eating chicken and fish for breakfast but it was good nonetheless. Good spot and great value.More

On Friday 27th August we visited in the evening time. I had bangers and mash which was lovely however mash was cold at the bottom . Sausages were lovely though and onions. My wife has fish which was plaice I believe, done in a nice...light batter. I had toffee pudding with ice cream and cream yum. So there we are two mains two desserts and two bottles of 0 Heineken ....€52 in total,a bit expensive however lesson learned do not buy two bottles of 0 Heineken in future.More

We stopped off here today (my first time, although my boyfriend had been here several times!). I was so surprised at the prices for the amount of food! Only €12 for bangers & mash that was divine & the same for the freshest chicken burger...ever… you wouldn’t get those prices for that unreal quality of the food anywhere else. Hoping the fighting cock never changes, I will be back again soon!More

Stopped in with my wife for some dinner and was seated by a lovely young lady. She looked to be on her own and was very busy but still had time to chat to us we learned her name was Emma. Her service was great...throughout and helped us with anything we may have needed. The food was amazing and we will 100% be back again.More

We were originally seated at a bristo table approximately 24in in circumference for a main meal, water and tea for 2. A lovely gentleman offered to swap with us to a larger table. The main server was very displeased with us moving and we found...her quite unpleasant. Other staff are so so but certainly not engaging. The price reflected the food which was mediocre.More

Top quality food served by top quality staff. Visited today with my wife. My chicken and mushroom vol au vent was top class served with side salad, coleslaw and yummy chips. The sticky toffee pudding was out of this world. Service was of the best...quality. Price was low for the quality of food. Far better than any restaurant in Carlow. Very highly recommended.More

Stopped by cosy little pub. Great pint of Guinness and food was decent. The reason for only 2 stars? They charged additional taxes on the food or drink. Not sure why? We’re they taking advantage because we were from out of town? Is it a...Carlow tax? A Covid tax? I don’t know because it wasn’t explained. It ruined an otherwise nice experience. See image of receipt attached. Ow their one credit card machine wasn’t working either... so we wouldn’t of been able to order if we didn’t have cash... hmmmMore

We come here a couple of times a month. The service is always great and the food is delicious. The duck spring rolls are the tastiest I’ve ever had. Would highly recommend for an informal bite to eat!

We’ve been here on several occasions. The food is a little bit hit and miss. Some days it’s beautiful, other days very average. Good service and nice atmosphere. Staff always friendly
