Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had fondue one night - excellent - and pizza the next - really good! Very good staff and a good wine list.

Another great restaurant in Pontresina. Frankly, I think the culinary scene makes this town a great home base in the area. We started with some very tasty salads and wine. We both ordered vegetarian main dishes- mine was a wonderfully flavored Gnocchi that had a...cheese-cream sauce to die for. My wife had a unique Spätzli dish that was also very, very good.More

Cheese fondue is not a traditional Engadin dish, but at our request our host at Hotel Albris recommended Hotel Bernina for a wonderful cheese fondue for our last night in Pontresina - and it was! We were greeted by name, seated in the cozy wood...paneled stubli on the right side of the entry rather than the more formal dining room on the left, and served like honored guests. We had a Gemischt salad, very tasty hay soup (really good!), and wonderful traditional cheese fondue, complete with small glasses of kirsch for dipping that we also ordered. One of our favorite meals in 2 weeks in Switzerland!More

I visited Locanda, the less-formal side of the Hotel Bernina dining room (same food, same waitstaff), and had a nice Italian red, some very good pumpkin and carrot creme soup, and an ample portion of Bergell-style rack of lamb with green beans and potatoes, all...topped off with an espresso. Nice place, excellent service, and an English menu is available to resolve the puzzles on the menu (food names are often fiendishly difficult, especially when you get past the common staples). The tab was a bit steep, however, coming to CHF 74. Yes, I know Switzerland is expensive, but that seemed a bit over the top. We're not talking about a Michelin star restaurant, or a place that's gotten 16+ Gault-Millau points.More

Great unpretentious restaurant serving lots of local dishes (amongst others) for reasonable prices. Great Tempranillo on the wine list.

I ate twice here during a recent trip with my husband (September 2016) and also twice here 3 years ago while traveling by myself. I highly recommend this place, particularly after a day of hiking (or skiing). As you walk in, you can choose the...right side room--rusty and more casual, or the left-side room--more formal but still relax. We tried both and liked both. One important thing to note is that the main course is complete with a good size protein main (beef, fish, etc.) plus plenty of vegetables and starch. So if you are not extra hungry, you only need to order a main course. I ate meat and my husband fish--both were very good. I particularly liked the spinach (and a lot of it to my liking) that came with my beef. My husband liked his fish dishes and the accompanying potatoes. The carrot cream soup was delicious. Wine was inexpensive and decent. The total bill came to be just over 90 SFs both times, not bad compared with other places.More

We had dinner several times at the Locanda Bernina. Go for the traditional soups such as Hay soups and other local or Swiss dishes. Service is excellent, as almost everywhere in the area.

Charming dining room, rustic decor, good service, somewhat formal. The menu is Swiss with local choices like capuns, and Italian with various pastas including pizzocheri, a buckwheat pasta that is a staple throughout this part of Switzerland and northern Italy. Good wine list. Prices somewhat...expensive.More

This is a small restaurant on the edge of the village no more than a dozen tables. The food is very good and the price for a set meal is comparable to equivalent establishments. I.E. to English eyes it's a bit steep.

As a staple of the local hospitality scene, Hotel Bernina owed to itself to transform an erstwhile 'Stammtisch' pub into a gourmet restaurant specialising in local dishes. If you want to move away from the run-of-the-mill fare of steaks and starches and give the regional...cuisine a try, this is the place to be. Hearty pizzocheri, succulent gnocchi and kapunz, the tastes are as varied as the names are exotic to most. You can choose to sit either in the wooden 'Locanda' part or in the more stylish restaurant. good service and wine selection. Three thumbs up!More

We ate here twice whilst in Pontresina - lunch in the bar one day and dinner in the restaurant one night. The service was great - friendly and informative - and the local dishes were delicious. I particularly recommend the capuns!

Fantastic service, we had a waiter called Ferrari who made us feel extremely welcome and spoke in at least 4 languages. He made our evening! Food was ok, the fondue was nice, but expensive, 30sf per person, served with bread, potatoes and pickled onions.

When we asked at our hotel for directions to a place serving regional food we were directed to the Hotel Bernina's Restaurant. Menu had good regional dishes (the english menu explains them somewhat and the waiter also helped our choices). Very good and unusual soups...including a "HAY" soup made from "the good grass that grows way up high on the mountain." I tried it and the waiter was right. It was good.More
