I arrived in Halifax for a one-night stay and spent my isolation (traveled from out of province) in the quality inn. the inn itself is quite nice. Nothing special, but nice. I called the Bistro to order food. A friendly and professional voice answered the...phone and took my order promptly. This is where the experience went downhill; I ordered nachos and an MGD. I was informed as I was speaking with the restaurant employee that they had run out of olives and jalapenos. I said that was fine and I'd still like the nachos imagining that tomatoes, peppers, green onions, etc. would still be part of the dish. I was called 20 minutes later and informed that the restaurant was also out of sour cream and was offered extra salsa as a substitute. This was fine by me. Now... I want to make it clear that I didn't expect the moon. What arrived outside my door was a small (8"x8") takeout box of tortilla chips with melted cheese, perhaps 5-6 small pieces of red pepper and (dry, unseasoned) chicken breast on top... and a Heineken. Again... I didn't expect the moon... but you could have salted the chicken a little and brought a beer resembling MGD. I was tired, I was hungry and I ate it and didn't say anything. These are trying times for everyone and I was grateful for something to munch but when I checked out I found out that this pathetic takeout dish of chips and dry chicken (along with the wrong beer) cost me $33. I hope they spend it on olives, jalapenos and sour cream for the next poor traveler who stumbles through their door late at night.More

Was delayed overnight with my wife and Brother so stayed here. At around 8 or 9 pm we were having a bite to eat and a drink in the beverage room. What appeared to be a "pizza delivery" person walked-in, which did seem a bit...odd but he looked just as confused himself. It appeared that some bar patrons had ordered a pizza (or food of some sort) to the bar. Cheers of joy erupted and the group was happy to see the delivery person walk-in. What happened next was/is COMPLETELY unacceptable!! The confused looking delivery person was approached by a blonde haired staff member (possible waitress) of the bar and was cussed-at very indignantly. She dropped "f" bomb's telling him to get the he!! out as well as saying something along the lines of what's wrong with you or just who do you think you are. As we looked around, we met the gazes of other patrons who had a look of suprise as well as sympathy for the delivery guy. She was very belligerent, condescending and loud. This was possibly something you may witness on the internet, but it happened right before our eye's, in Canada, Nova Scotia at that!! Very, very unprofessional to say the least! My wife, brother and I actually talked to some other people whom were also in the bar, a little while later on in the lobby. They also witnessed this and were equally disgusted at this woman's behavior. Too bad someone did not record this because it could be used as a training point of how NOT to handle a situation at a business establishment. I do not know who or where the delivery guy worked but to you if you read this; congrat's for keeping a level head dispite being faced with aggression and verbal assault from that woman. As far as anyone from the hotel managment whom may read this, I would suggest that perhaps you address this staff member, and make it a point to ensure this kind of thing does not happen in the future. We are doubtful to ever stay here again because frankly, this incident turned our stomach's. Who knows, maybe it could have been that guys first day on the job and did not know better... this is still by no means an excuse for the way in which he was cussed-out in front of a crowd of people, by a member of your staff. We give two stars because other than that, our stay was decent. Most likely would have given four if it wasn't for this disturbing occurrence. Thank you.More

Currently here now for the night and ordering food. I am not happy so far. We were just here an hour ago for snacks and a drink. My wife looked at the wine menu and ended up being told that there is only one white...wine option available. The wall behind the bar showed a good variety of of Craft beers. When I ordered I was told that they only had an Irish red available. Now we are here for supper, asked for an Irish red craft beer , and now I'm being told that the taps aren't open. Why advertise all of these great craft beers and have none in stock or open for purchase? The burger special that is being advertised is a smoked Gouda and pea meal bacon burger, so That sounded good to have, just got told, there is no Gouda. once again, not as advertised. I'm not impressed at All. however, the staff was great and very professional and did what they could.More

When traveling, I usually stay at the adjacent Inn since the service is wonderful and the price reasonable. I usually make sure that I have at least one meal here at the Wooden Door Bistro. Here are my reasons: You are made welcome, the moment...you sit down; Staff are friendly, polite and have great suggestions. The restaurant is open space and with ample seating for everyone. You walk in and you hear laugher that makes you feel very comfortable. The food is generous and very tasty. The servers go the extra mile to ensure that you have a super experience. It is always a highlight to start a trip on a positive note.More

We were dropping friends at the airport and wanted supper before. The restaurant being at our hotel was a no brainer. Friends had their minds made up on food item until the server brought fish and chips to a table close by, their minds quickly...changed. My husband ordered Shrimp Alfredo but found the portion size small. I had seafood chowder - amazing!More

The food was mediocre, but since this was a hotel restaurant we weren’t expecting much. The wait staff, however, was very good.

I ordered the cabbage sausage soup. Usually this has a German or Ukraine background so I expected bratworst or garlic sausage. Instead it was hot hot sausage I broke out in a sweat while eating it. My husband order penne bolanaise Tomato based sauce over...penne. Well he got some of the fricken hot sausage as well. Without the heat our meals would have been fine. The staff were very friendly. Bring heart burn medicine.More

Decided to commit to dining here for our one night stay, based in the reviews and what we saw on the menu. What a mistake. :( We waited over 35min for the main meal to arrive. Calamari appy was over fried - not as described...in the menu. And the tartar sauce...in a clear plastic 2oz takeout cup! Com’on people, this is supposedly dine-in restaurant, right? Beef curry stir fry on rice - WAY to salty - overpowered the curry sauce. The philly cheese steak sandwich n fried was so-so. The breaded chicken burger n fries was the only order that wasn’t wrong The apple crumble and ice cream salvaged what little we enjoyed. For $95+ meal, & another apple crumble to-go, your better off driving another 20mins to dine elsewhere.More
