Amazing food and happy upbeat employees. Bartender really personable and makes a point to talk to all customers. Best service and atmosphere in an airport I’ve had.

I had the Nova Scotia Breakfast and it was so far beyond my expectations that I ordered the Blueberry Grunt to eat during my layover in Toronto. My waitress was genuinely happy I liked the food so much and brought the Blueberry Grunt unassembled so...it wouldn't get soggy before I ate it. I've been in about 20 countries, and this is the best food and service I've had in any airport.More
For airport food, this place is marvellous. I go thru Hfx airport on business fairly often and make it a point to stop in here if time permits; everything on the menu is fresh, well-prepared and tasty. the servers are attentive, without being overly so....I've never felt any pressure to vacate my table, despite staying an hour or more longer than necessary. Recommend this place.More
We asked if the chowder was made on site and they said it was. For 2$ extra you can have a tossed salad or Caesar. The chowder was a generous portion with exactly what was stated on the menu in a delicious creamy liquid base....It was not too rich - just right. Speaks well for a maritime restaurant at an airport. Must also acknowledge the superfriendly and efficient staffMore
I was waiting at the airport and had some time to kill and came in here to get a drink and an appetizer. The servers here were great, very friendly and awesome service. I got the PEI mussels which were absolutely delicious. They were a...little pricey, but prices are always jacked up at airports. But if you are looking to get something to eat before a flight (or even after if you don't have a bag to pick up and aren't in a hurry) then I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.More
Like all travelers at the airport: hungry, worried about being late at my gate, refusing to make do with a bag of chips...I stopped in at Bia Mara. Simple but functional wine list, and things that caught my eye: generous salads, routine (4 kinds), lobster...roll and scallops. I had the scallops. Buttery, not overcooked... delightful 'sides' - pesto, tomatoes, olives, capers and a wicked spicy aoli. With a glass of pinot grigio, I now board the plane happy!More
I've eaten at Bia Mara twice and ordered the same entree both times because it was just so good. It's the Quinoa chopped salad, I think, and it's vegetarian. I highly recommend this salad for your main. It is a large portion and a great...price. Service is good too and the atmosphere is very nice. I can't wait to order it again.More
We had some time to kill before our flights back to the UK and some Canadian $ remaining to spend so decided to "splurge" in a more expensive restaurant rather than one of the hideous burger chains. Bit of a mistake. My meal was passable,...a chicken half baguette with salad and fries. I love avocado and the menu suggested this was included, but there was no sign. My husband chose a beefsteak pappardelle which he descrbied as tasteless and bland. All in all the meal with a beer and glass of wine cost us $100 dollars and if the food had been better would have been worth the expense, but sadly not for us. Our server definitely needed to smile more as well.More
Well we had to go home. Stopped for our last Halifax beer. Dave the bartender was the best ever!!!! The rating is for Dave! The beer n drink were good also
On the way to our gate at 7 am, walked by the Bia Mara. No one was in the restaurant, not usually a good sign, although the decor was much nicer than the usual airport places. The menu looked interesting so we figured might as...well grab a breakfast before our 6 hour flight. After we were seated, the waiter came over to take our orders. He was super friendly and helpful with information about the options. He asked if I would like a beer, which was surprising at 7 am. He even provided a couple of generous samples, of which I chose a Goose Island IPA. Wife had the Nova Scotia breakfast, and I had the smoked salmon scramble. He recommended fish cakes on the side, which I was glad I accepted. Both breakfasts were fabulous, among the best we've had. Would HIGHLY recommend the Bia Mara if you need some food in the Halifax airport after you have gone through security.More
