The Royal Oak has long been a favourite pub meal destination for us. The food is good quality, well priced, and the staff very friendly and attentive. A good way to spend a relaxing Friday evening

A lot of us descended on this beautiful old pub last Sunday after a memorial service on the green. Steve the landlord was so accommodating to us, made us feel so welcome in the beautiful pub. The food was lovely and service very fast. We will detour from the main roads to visit here again

A walk around Burrator reservoir followed by a quick drink in The Royal Oak. Great range of ciders for me and a Jail for the old girl. But the gins ,,,,we just had to try A salcombe for her indooors and a 60 % Blackwood for me . Fantastic. Great landlord who had time to talk and have some banter

One room no dogs, the other room is no children. Despite this, the staff were very helpful in finding us a table. Food was amazing and the beer was the best of the week - a very good pint of Jail Ale. A real pub too. Would love to live close by.

We have been to the Royal Oak on numerous occasions and sure it can sometimes have a wait but when you go somewhere that's popular and it has high standards that's to be expected. We've never had a bad meal here and the specials board is a treasure chest to behold! The waffles are yummy and my standard dessert. Enjoy.

This is top of the best for cosy pubs . Set in an idyllic village on Dartmoor . A welcoming smile from staff and regulars , plus a roaring wood fire . The food is totally delicious especially the roast beef dinner. My husband and I feel so relaxed and leave happy with full tums ! To complete - we... More

Food was good and hearty on a cold winters day. Service was good and the selection of ales was more than acceptable with the staff willing to let you try a few before you buy - always a bonus! :)

This is a lovely country pub in a beautiful Devon village. The food is excellent and of good quality. I would love to given a 5 star rating BUT was let down but the 1hour.15min wait for the food. The problem here is the pub has 2 sittings for meals 6pm & 8pm so naturally everyone arrives at more or... More

The Royal Oak is hidden of the beaten track but well worth the journey. Great selection of ciders, ales and lager along with food that could be classed as old fashioned pub food but it's great quality and great size portions

Excellent food as always in a real Dartmoor local pub. Normal range of pub grub on main menu, and some specials which seem to change daily. Generally quite large portions, so be warned.

Description
The Royal Oak Inn is a free house owned by Burrator Parish Council. It is situated within the Dartmoor National Park, in an idyllic location next to the village green in Meavy. The pub is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old. This is one of the few remaining traditional pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace. Some of the seats are pews from the adjacent church. And the wood fire provides a warm welcome on those cold winter evenings. If character is what you want from your visit then you could find no better place!
