We arrived early for our ferry and decided to have lunch at this restaurant where we had previously had so many good meals. We had not booked but they fitted us in to one of the few tables that were unreserved and shortly thereafter diners for these appeared to fill the restaurant. Almost without exception the clientele seemed to be... More

What a lovely warm welcome from the proprietors. Throughout the meal the staff were attentive to our needs. We started with oysters - well you have to when you're by the sea, on continued with delicious fresh sole and monkfish. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. I love the French way of having cheese followed by dessert and thankfully we... More

We had booked a table for lunch for 1 pm and when we arrived the restaurant was full and for good reason as the food was excellent. We were lucky enough to be seated by the window so we had great views across the Pas de Calais of the ferries arriving into the port and could even see the Cliffs... More

Sadly, awful. Table booked 1,00pm. Arrived 1.00 pm. After10-15 mins aperitif order taken and menus given. 14.10 order taken. No amuse bouche, bread given. Difficult to make aperitif to last that long. Wine arrives about 14.30 . Feeling a little, fuzzy as got up 06.15 to get to shuttle and only croissant + coffee am. After 2 hrs. Starter arrived, disappointed.... More

We've been here a number of times in the past and loved its quirky ambience and, especially, the food. Booked a week ago and arrived at 13.05 for lunch. Aperitifs arrived, orders taken, wine chosen and then - nothing. Our starters arrived at 14.10 and our mains at 15.00. We said we were a bit 'presse' but to no avail.... More

We have eaten here quite a few times over the years but always in the evening. We’d arrived in Calais early morning and wanted a good seafood lunch so Au Cote d’Argent was our first choice. The food and service were fantastic as always, despite the restaurant being really busy. We highly recommend this great restaurant.

My daughter and I had an unplanned 24 hour stay in Calais on Christmas eve, while our family waited for us in the UK. While disappointed that we couldn't get home, this restaurant was a silver lining. We thoroughly enjoyed every course on the Christmas eve menu with accompanying wines. The menu was well constructed with great flavours. The staff... More

We came here because the restaurant in our hotel was not open in Christmas Day - they recommended Au Cote d'Argent as being both open and good. How right they were - from the amuse-bouche to the coffee the food was excellent, with innovative pairings and subtle flavours complementing each other. The service was just right, and the chef came... More

This was either my fifth or sixth visit to this restaurant. Like many I stop by for lunch after stocking up with wine and cheese on a day trip. Without exception the food is excellent and the service first class. You have a choice of 3 menus although I rarely eat off the cheapest menu the choice looks very good.... More

Great meal and service - including snails, bouillabaisse and amazing cheeses. Beautiful day with a view of the White Cliffs of Dover in the far distance.

Description
Au Cote d'Argent restaurant right on the water at Calais faces the seawall with fascinating views of the watery parade of sea ferries churning in and out. The dining room puts you in the mood for excellent seafood, with varnished wood-panelled walls, marine blue carpeting and upholstery, nautical detailing and huge plate glass windows for viewing the waves. Chef Bertrand Lefebvre trained with some of Frances greatest chefs Paul Bocuse among them before opening his own restaurant here. The cuisine is simple, elegant in a selection of menus that include dishes like chicken livers sauted with mushrooms in sherry, fillet of red mullet with rice and shellfish with saffron or half lobster without shell but with coral sauce. The service is warm, the cooking refined and sophisticated, the wines are French and the experience a delight.
