The hotel is really pleasant, we’d advise anyone to stay there. But, the restaurant is another story. Three words that define it: pretentious, mediocre, overpriced. The children’s menu is 20 euros for a main dish and a dessert. It listed as the main dish a quarter roast chicken. Instead, we received a dry chicken breast drowning in some inedible gravy with a side dish of French fries tasting so weirdly not even our hungry child would eat them. BTW they charge 7 euros for an Apple Juice! The menu choices for the adults are either 39,99 Euros or 49,99 for a 3-course meal. We picked the less expensive one. Each and every dish was an utter disaster. No flavors plus mediocre ingredients and their incomprehensible combinations define this culinary experience. We highly recommend you skip this place. Hopefully, someone there will wake up and realize the disservice they’re doing to their paying customers. But, that’s unlikely. The waitstaff, although quite professional, clearly bought into the pretentiousness of the place. They didn’t react helpfully to any complaints. Avoid this restaurant if you can. We gave two stars in order to acknowledge the very pleasant hotel experience, but also to warn about the mediocrity of the restaurant. Btw, even though breakfast was included in our stay we skipped it after having ‘enjoyed’ their kitchen the night before. It wasn’t worth the aggravation.

I went to this restaurant in 2014. Because of my previous experience my expectations were not too high. Today I went again and ordered the menu. I have to admit that the staff was was extremely professional. I just would like to tell the owner that he should replace the chef. The lobster soup was cold and they had to reheat it. The lamb served was well done although we had asked “rosé”. So they were friendly again and brought us a new dish. But what we had on our new place was so average that I could not dare to serve this at home. The desert was ok but nothing special. It’s a pity that in this wonderful place in France, so low attention is made to the quality of food. I am still amazed that this place is still on the Michelin guide.

I know you going to go to La Mere Poulard for the omelet no matter what I say, just like we did because it is famous, a must try for yourself and there aren't that many places to eat on Mont St Michel. The plain omelet was tasteless, more like a souffle. A regular french omelet would have been much better. Having said this when you do order the omelet( you should watch them make it in the wood fire on your way in or out) do not order the plain omelet(part of the prix fixe menu), order and omelet with something which they serve on the side. Open the omelet and put the vegetables in the omelet. This should make the omelet taste better. As one thing I read about businesses on Mont St Michel said, they aren't getting any repeat business so they don't care about service or the quality of the food.

Le Mere Poulard is the first restaurant you encounter walking into Mont Saint Michel. It has a long tradition of hospitality. The famous dish is the omelette cooked over a wood fire. Since nothing on the island is cheap, you might as well start here. Prices are more than what you would pay on the mainland for the same dishes. But here, you are on the World Heritage Site of Mont Saint Michel. If you are going to eat here, you might as well have a menu. There are a number to choose from. All feature the omelette as either a starter or a main course. The omelette as a main with grilled scallops is very nice. You can watch them make the omelette over the wood fire as you enter the restaurant. The restaurant is clean but it is on the sea and the shine is hard to keep up. The rooms and halls are decorated with pictures from the many famous people who have dined here including General Omar Bradley, the astronaut Alan Shepard and French President Charles De Gaulle. So you can think back to the glory days of Le Mere Poulard. The food is good if not a little pricey. The service is efficient but lacks any warmth. I guess this comes from being t the center of tourist mobs in the warm months. Overall, we will come back when our travels bring us back to Mont Saint Michel.

Restaurant is supposed to propose the menu until 3:00pm but after 2:30pm forget about it. Workers are leaving for their break. No continuity in the service. You will only have 2 choices. You leave the place and you come back at 6pm or you take what is available a 2 choices menu at approximately 10€ per eggs 😅 People can wait 30min or 1h even if some table are available at the ground floor and first floor is totally empty. Very interesting marketing strategy. Hope you won’t need to go to the toilets… (see pics)

We had dinner here when we stayed on the Mont. All in all we had a great night but need to give a rounded perspective so know what you are getting. It's very expensive, really high in comparison to what you get if you compare it to mainland restaurants but...you are on the Mont so go with flow if you can. The food was good, we had three courses and we cleared every plate. It was the only place on the Mont that was open with any atmosphere so for us it was the only place to eat. Music in background, linen table clothes/napkins at least help support the prices they are charging. We had a great red wine there too. We were the last out, the staff kindly waited for us to finish. If you are there we would recommend it as the place to go. Not sure about the whole Omlette thing....we didn't go for it.

We got lucky and waited about 20 minutes to sit as we had just arrived to the Mont. Keep in mind that this place is booked most days of the week and walk-ins wait for a long time or are turned away. The staff was friendly and attentive, and spoke English fluently. We had the omelets and they were very tasty. The scallops were very fresh and full of flavor and the bacon with potatoes were delicious. The omelets were buttery, and I wish the one I had was cooked a little longer, but they were still very good. We had ice cream for desert and OMG I almost licked the dish. We had vanilla, strawberry, and apple, and it had been a long time since ice cream had gotten us so excited. The experience was well worth the price. I highly recommend this place if you come to the Mont.

For nearly 50 years now, I go to the Mont St Michel once every 10-15 years (this is my 5th visit), and each time I make it a point to dine at La Mère Poulard. OK, the wait to get in can be long; the omelette soufflé is excellent but a few eggs ain’t haute cuisine; and it’s way overpriced at 32-36€ (less if you take it as part of a menu)? I’d say definitely, because the experience of watching the preparation of and eating a dish that has been praised and savoured by many artists and authors on a magical island is truly unique, and the overworked staff is nice and professional, so don’t be a whiner. You don’t exactly come here every day. Don’t compare it with a fast-food joint like Eggslut!

Having spent the better part of an hour waiting for menus, waiting for any recognition by the small staff that we were even there (5 of us in the front of the room), we are seriously contemplating walking out. We wish we had checked reviews before entering and we would have kept walking. I highly recommend skipping this restaurant there are many others that serve the same omelet soufflé.

Is an omelette worth 32 euros? No. Is eating an omelette that has been served to pilgrims for 100s of years on an island that has everything hauled to it, in a room with signed photos of everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt to Moroccan royalty, with white table clothes and served by quintessential French waiters, beside the kitchen with an open fire that the omelettes are made, after walking around the most beautiful village in the most magical setting in the world worth it? I would say YES. When I heard about the 'overpriced, runny omelettes' I thought, we can just pack a picnic for that meal, but then my teen daughter researched it and said we HAVE TO get the omelette. It, a glass of cider, 6 escargot, a Normandy apple tart was our most expensive meal during our 12 days in France but it was a fun splurge. Know what you are going into if you do decide to have the omelette experience.

We ordered two omelettes, one with bacon and potatoes and the other with scallops. The omelettes are just ok...but not worth 38 euros per dishes. I would pay 10 euros for that, not more. The potatoes are not fully cooked, and the veggies (that are coming with the scallops are not cooked enough as well).I do not advise to come here, it is not as it used to be.

This is an icon on Saint Michel and was absolutely worth the delicious food. Helpful and friendly service from the staff and truly historical ambiance. The omelette is truly one of a kind and even the bacon melted on my tongue. Only issue is really the cost - I get the price of the food but seriously €7 for an Orangina?!

I was very wary about our planned dinner at this restaurant based on the negativity of most of the reviews here, but we were staying at the hotel upstairs, it was the only hotel on the island that offered an 8:30 PM seating, and we wanted to try the famous omelette. We arrived to a restaurant that was only about half full and were seated promptly by the friendly hostess. The dining room was clean and attractively appointed. We enjoyed craning our necks to inspect the framed mementos of the many famous guests who have dined here in the past. It wasn’t until we were presented with a small menu of options to choose from that I realized I had booked a room rate that included our dinner and breakfast. (“Demi-pension” means “half board.”) We had a choice of three ciders to begin with, then one of two appetizers, one of three main courses, and one of two desserts. The brut cider was nice. My baked Camembert appetizer was good, the omelette with bacon and mushrooms was buttery and delicious (such a unique texture), but the apple tarte for dessert was just okay. We had also ordered glasses of wine, but those, like our waiter, never returned. Despite the sparse service, we enjoyed the dinner and were glad to have tried the famous omelette at the place where it was born.

We went there for the reputation and we were very disappointed. The price 30 euros is too expensive for an omelette and it was not even delicious. I wrote this just to warn other people to avoid this restaurant and don't spend over 100 euros and had a bad experience like us.

We visited as a family with our two young children (one aged 11 months). We were able to get a table fairly quickly at around 12 noon and were sent upstairs to the first floor. It was clear that they had not yet finished setting up for service up there and we were led to a table whilst they were still putting down cutlery etc. As a result we had no glasses or anything on the table. We were given menus straight away but had to flag down a waiter after some time to take our order - a couple of times I tried to get his attention and was completely ignored. Our youngest was becoming restless as she was hungry during this time and we were keen to get served quickly so as not to disturb the other diners. Eventually they came to take our order but we then waited around 40 minutes for the food to arrive. First they brought the children’s food over and we had to ask for the water we had ordered and then some glasses to pour it in. We were then waiting another 20-30 minutes for the two omelettes we had ordered together with the wine to go with it. After several attempts to get the waiters attention he came over and said oh you order two omelettes yes. And then after another 10 minutes he came over to say it would be 2 more minutes. At this point I had to ask for the wine again. After another 10 minutes our food and drinks finally arrived. Was it worth the hype? Absolutely not. It was an airy omelette with a nice jus (my daughters chicken supreme was nicer!!) But we were so fed up having waited so long trying to keep two children occupied whilst watching lots of tables around us receiving much more acceptable service that the whole experience was completely ruined for us in any event. We left feeling completely ripped off given we’d paid 45 euros per omelette and pretty offended that we had basically been forgotten about for most of the meal. Other than the half arsed sorry that the food would be even longer there was no acknowledgement that the service had not lived up to expectation. All in all it totally ruined it for us and we would not recommend.
