Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Read the other reviews. Unaccommodating. Should close down for good. Look… it’s just an egg. You know what one tastes like. Other restaurants make it too, and far cheaper. Get over it.

You cannot not try the omelette, that's what this restaurant is famous for. I would agree that it makes an egg very expensive, but that is one in a life time culinary experience.

Restaurant only. Went for the famous omelette...didn't get to try it. We had already eaten lunch but wanted to stop by for an afternoon snack and try the hype. Took someone 5 minutes to even greet us, and he did so with his nose up...in the air. Sat us down and told us there were only 2 omelette choices, and said the choices very quickly. We kindly asked if he could repeat the options. We asked if we could get drinks and share an omelette. Apparently not worth their time - EACH person has to order an omelette. We left - what a pompous attitude, no classic service; you're just another restaurant!More

The food is nice but let’s talk about the service… they’re not professional or well trained! We arrived at 12pm and left at 1:30pm, we have waited almost 30min for our dessert because they forgot them… the waiters are not patient at all, neither nice...with the foreign customers (I can tell because I am french). They don’t try to understand them or don’t wait the customers to use the translator.More

After having read a number of reviews, I had very low expectations. I would have skipped it except my girlfriend really wanted the famous omelette. Unfortunately my expectations were pretty much on point. Grossly overpriced, long line, and a crowded, rushed experience with the classic...rude French waiter thrown in as a bonus. OK, the omelette WAS decent, and watching how they prepare it in the oven was very unique, but this was a “one and done” for me. The very definition of “tourist trap”.More

My wife and I were much looking forward to visiting this iconic restaurant. Sadly it was a very disappointing experience. The lady who was clearly in charge was brusque unapproachable and rude and was very much take it or leave it.The male waiter was obliging but...clearly terrified of not conforming or of saying anything that was critical. Our problem was we were seated by a window in the direct sunlight and they wouldn’t change our table appropriately apparently it was impossible! There we’re clearly other tables available. This seating ruined our eating experience as we were far too hot.The restaurant lost out because we had our food and drink and left without more wine, coffee,or dessert and no tip.It was such a disappointment because it’s not somewhere you would regularly visit they are inundated with tourists and couldn’t care less. For anyone visiting check your seat make sure it’s not warm outside and be prepared to be hurried through the food. Such a pity for an iconic placeMore

Everyone seems to come here for the omelette. There is the history and the hype. And do try. But if you are 2 or more. Order 1 to share and order something else like lamb from the region. After 1/3 of the omelette you will...start thinking this is just egg and it is. And an expensive one too. I have see so many disappointed faces half way thru their meal.More

Having spent the better part of an hour waiting for menus, waiting for any recognition by the small staff that we were even there (5 of us in the front of the room), we are seriously contemplating walking out. We wish we had checked reviews...before entering and we would have kept walking. I highly recommend skipping this restaurant there are many others that serve the same omelet soufflé.More

This was our first stay on the island. We choice to stay to avoid crowds and had quiet evenings on the island. The rooms were very clean as was the WHOLE hotel, the desk staff were very helpful and extremely friendly and always available. This...was a perfect location. For what we paid, we were extremely satisfied. In all aspects this was a great stay. To top off a great stay on the island and at this hotel, we had breakfast there. First, EVERY staff was smiling, friendly, and helpful in every way. What a great start to the day. Second, the breakfast was probably the best we had during our whole stay in France. Our stay at this hotel and our welcoming greetings both at the hotel and in the restaurant will not be forgotten. Thank you.More

I was very wary about our planned dinner at this restaurant based on the negativity of most of the reviews here, but we were staying at the hotel upstairs, it was the only hotel on the island that offered an 8:30 PM seating, and we...wanted to try the famous omelette. We arrived to a restaurant that was only about half full and were seated promptly by the friendly hostess. The dining room was clean and attractively appointed. We enjoyed craning our necks to inspect the framed mementos of the many famous guests who have dined here in the past. It wasn’t until we were presented with a small menu of options to choose from that I realized I had booked a room rate that included our dinner and breakfast. (“Demi-pension” means “half board.”) We had a choice of three ciders to begin with, then one of two appetizers, one of three main courses, and one of two desserts. The brut cider was nice. My baked Camembert appetizer was good, the omelette with bacon and mushrooms was buttery and delicious (such a unique texture), but the apple tarte for dessert was just okay. We had also ordered glasses of wine, but those, like our waiter, never returned. Despite the sparse service, we enjoyed the dinner and were glad to have tried the famous omelette at the place where it was born.More

This place was highly recommended for the whipped omlette technique. Indeed the omelets looked big and impressive but it had no taste. Very bland, even salt and pepper could not help it. The tiny portion of the entre was fine but did not really go...with the omelet. It was a complete rip off to charge up to 36 euros. My husband got the lamb, which was overcooked, hard and dry. Luckily it came with au jus so that it was edible. The silver lining was that the escargot was very tasty (although not necessarily better than other restaurants) and the dessert was good. So not worthy of Michelin though and completely over rated.More

For nearly 50 years now, I go to the Mont St Michel once every 10-15 years (this is my 5th visit), and each time I make it a point to dine at La Mère Poulard. OK, the wait to get in can be long; the...omelette soufflé is excellent but a few eggs ain’t haute cuisine; and it’s way overpriced at 32-36€ (less if you take it as part of a menu)? I’d say definitely, because the experience of watching the preparation of and eating a dish that has been praised and savoured by many artists and authors on a magical island is truly unique, and the overworked staff is nice and professional, so don’t be a whiner. You don’t exactly come here every day. Don’t compare it with a fast-food joint like Eggslut!More

Ridiculously overpriced compared to much better restaurants in the same street. Staff unfriendly and busy. I had Omelette which was a speciality and it was not only disgusting but made me ill for 2 days, and was priced at 35 euros! For a couple of...eggs uncooked. AVOID and go up the road to restaurants with half the price and much better choices and food quality. I would give it ZERO stars but the system won't let me. example of inflated prices just on a bottle water - there it was 8.80 euros for a bottle of 75cls water, SAME brand in restaurant higher up the street was 5.5o euros for a bigger bottle of 100cls. You can imagine the mark-up on the food prices.More

Is an omelette worth 32 euros? No. Is eating an omelette that has been served to pilgrims for 100s of years on an island that has everything hauled to it, in a room with signed photos of everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt to Moroccan royalty, with...white table clothes and served by quintessential French waiters, beside the kitchen with an open fire that the omelettes are made, after walking around the most beautiful village in the most magical setting in the world worth it? I would say YES. When I heard about the 'overpriced, runny omelettes' I thought, we can just pack a picnic for that meal, but then my teen daughter researched it and said we HAVE TO get the omelette. It, a glass of cider, 6 escargot, a Normandy apple tart was our most expensive meal during our 12 days in France but it was a fun splurge. Know what you are going into if you do decide to have the omelette experience.More

I am not recommending this place. My husband ordered beef in cidre. He wasn’t asked how he wants it cooked. It arrived within less than 10 mins. It was tough, absolutely overcooked, tasteless. I ordered lamb. It was merely mediocre. My local pub serves better...food. I am giving one star for nice atmosphere. I liked the place. It looked inviting. Too bad the food was not good at all.More

We dined in the evening for dinner, and there was various degrees of dress amongst the men at the restaurant. I don’t think they have a dress code.
