We liked everything about Nilo. The service was very friendly, the beach was clean and the restaurant deserves special praise. Their ragu is one of the best I ever tasted. The drinks and deserts are lovely too. They make excellent smoothies from fresh fruit and...berries.
Thanks a lot for the wonderful time we had.More
Third year we are here and cannot help it. Family driven, great hospitality and very service minded, friendly and relaxed atmosphere, great sea food etc. Facilities clean and have everything you need. Strongly recommended.
Firstly, we are a family of Brits....and are use to pitching up at the seaside, laying out the chairs and loungers, spreading a picnic and letting the kids make sandcastles and play football on the beach...with the only real cost being a couple of pounds...to cover car parking.
So, we thought we would apply this basic but well trusted formula on our family holiday to Italy this year.
Or so we thought.
We learnt a couple of quick lessons: 1) You pay to access any decent beach in this area. For Bagno Nilo they relieved us of 50 euros (for 2 adults and a 15 year old ) quicker than you could say 'Brexit'. And this was for an afternoon. 2) the beaches are choc a block with well laid out sun loungers and parasols. They stretch as far as the eye can see...giving the impression they are participating in some form of beach military parade . When you are assigned to your parasol (and don't dare think about moving yourself to one closer to the sea!) you quite literally have a few square metres of sand for the day. Want to see the sea? Forget it....your view will be of parasol upon parasol...3) you can't play on the beach...at least not with a lightweight beach football. Oh no. We tried a gentle kick about at the waters edge (where the parasol military operations had actually drawn a line) and were surrounded instantly by two lifeguards who had more 'Italian' passion for stopping our fun than they did for monitoring the hoardes of bathers splashing around in the sea. At least I assume it was Italian passion...there was a lot of arm waving and gesticulating going on causing other users (who were lined up on the waters edge) to turn around and wonder if they were witnessing the first parasol making a run for freedom...
On the plus side, Bagno Nilo offers good food and drinks and is very clean. Changing rooms are available along with lockers (for a fee of course) and was run by a lady who was very much in control of operations. My assumption here is that it is a family business.
We did not visit any other Bagnos...one day was enough....so cannot relate how Bagno Nilo compares to the others ...but our impression was favourable in the context of what we saw...
So...all in all a funny carry on. It felt like a well executed operation in extracting maximum income from a privately owned patch of sand. Which, it all honesty, it was.
Obviously it's how things are done here and it's us who need to adapt....but one things for sure, our next beach excursion will be back to where kids can enjoy themselves, you can claim your own bit of sand and you can actually see the sea.More
At first glance Bagno Nilo appears to be a very crowded beach overlooked by the cafe/restaurant, but friendly, helpful service, scrupulously clean facilities and good food make this a memorable and enjoyable attraction. Quick service, good food and great view.
Beach has talcum powder sand,...safe bathing and very comfortable pods (tables, chairs, loungers, umbrellas) that you can hire for an hour or a month, depending on how much time you have at your disposal. Lots of space between the 'rows' which helps to make it a great location.More
