The restaurant is not known for its unique location nor (lake) view but all the more for the quality of the food and wines. This friendly place is located on the road (SR71) towards Castiglione del Lago on the exit to the small village Borghetto....Don't drive to fast (!) or you will miss the sharp exit to the parking lot. Be wise and let yourself be guided by the hostess (speaks good English) in her excellent taste in both food and matching wine(s). You will be pleasantly surprised. For starters and main we had a selection of various fish and crustacean. The combination of baked salmon with caramelized figs was brilliant. And our first experience with 'Birramisu' was just perfect. In short, if you want a quick (and cheap) bite and thinking of pizza don't go here. If you enjoy dining and want to widen your scope for Italian food don't think twice.More

A quiet restaurant which is perfect for tasting local cuisine. Frequently visited by locals, this restaurant offers many different traditional dishes which one doesn't typically find in other more commercial restaurants. The combination of flavours are very authentic and taste very good. A particular dish...is the fish carbonara! Strange combination which tastes very nice. Many of the dishes include home made ingredients....The owner was super nice and brought us local olive oils + explained alot re local dishes. One of the best places to experience the real Umbrian cuisine.More

We spent six days in the Castiglione del Lago area and this, definitely, was the highlight of our week. We sat outdoors on a warm evening and, ultimately, were joined by four other parties -- one with two small children. We're old and we're always...a little wary when small children show up, but this went well. Our hostess/server sat the family somewhat distant from the tables occupied only by adults and we considered that a thoughtful thing. In fact, she was thoughtful throughout our evening. We started with a shared pasta dish that had "Flowers" in the name and that came looking like an array for flowers. The pasta was light, bright green and stuffed with cheese on a plate with a little olive oil. It was fabulous and we would go back just for this. For our main course, my husband ordered the cod and I had a grilled seafood platter. Both were excellent. My husband drank beer, I had proseco and then we finished with a heavenly shared tiramisu, recommended by a neighboring diner (we took very little convincing.) In fact, the fun part of the evening was our experience with other diners. The place and the hostess all seemed to support our getting to know each other. They sent us samples of the octopus and chips we would never have tried but found that we liked lot. We reciprocated by sending them a tiramisu for dessert. All in all it was a memorable dinner with lovely people in a nice, casual setting. We recommend it without reservation (but, do get a reservation unless you are showing up very early as we did.)More

We have had a lovely evening. The food was tastfull and the host friendly and caring. The use of honest ingredients and Umbrian kitchen are well combined. The lamb was soft and tender, the pasta with vegetables and ginger tastfull and chips surprisingly tin. The...dessert biramisu divine. With a complementary limoncello and coffee with homemade cookies we fineshed the diner. In one word: it is worth visitingMore

As we were traveling from Florence to Perugia we wanted to find a restaurant for a quick lunch. It was a pleasant surprise to find La Badiaccia. At 2:30 pm in this small village the place was packed. However, that didn’t interrupt the service or...quality of food. From the pasta to sauces everything was homemade. The house wine was excellent. No one in our group expected this dining to jump to one of our best on this 3 week trip across Europe. The owner runs the restaurant and her husband is the chef. Strongly recommended!!More

In September of 2018 my wife and I were returning to Rome after a couple day visit to the Tuscan city of San Gimignano. I decided to stray from the direct path to Rome in order to make a stop in Umbria at La Badiaccia...in Castiglione del Lago. Totally by chance, on the exact same day back in 2016 my wife and I were part of a group of 9 just arriving in Umbria for a weeks stay. We discovered La Badiaccia that same night and enjoyed a pleasant venue, wonderfully attentive service, mouth watering food and lots of delicious wine. On our most recent visit, we arrived at La Badiaccia for lunch and sat outside to enjoy the sunny, warm weather. As if by fate, we were greeted by the same smiling woman who graciously and patiently attended to our fun loving group exactly 2 years earlier. What is even more amazing to me is the fact the she remembered our group from 2016 and without prompting pointed to the very table where our group sat during that visit! We chatted sporadically throughout our lunch as she attended to other patrons and I cannot tell you how thoroughly enjoyable our wide ranging conversation was. The food at La Badiaccia did not disappoint on this second visit. My wife ordered and raved about an gnocchi dish that was made from purple potatoes. I can say with confidence that the quality of the food was as good as I had remembered from our prior visit. This alone deserves high praise indeed. However, the gift of being remembered by our wonderful hostess/server made our second visit that much more special and personal. In short, if you are within striking distance of La Badiaccia as you visit or pass through Umbria near Castiglione del Lago and Lake Trasimeno I strongly encourage you stop for a meal and I'm more confident than ever that you will not be disappointed.More
