Great place to eat and fabulous view from front windows. Nice portions and starters can be ordered as main dishes. I highly recommend the crispy chicken salad and the monkfish curry. It. An be understaffed at times and there can be waiting times for tables but in general not too long. The other pub is the same. Staff are very helpful and small changes to dish are available such as more veg instead of potatoes and salad instead of chips. Reasonable on price , much brighter than before but you may need to book during peak times.

I have had 2 staycations in July in Duncannon and ate with friends in the Strand Tavern on both occasions. The welcome and atmosphere is professional but warm and the procedures in place regarding Covid do not affect the pleasure of eating here. The special of hake was truly delicious with a cream sauce that was divine. Mash was out on its own and I would happily travel down for dinner alone. Thanks to Dymphna and Eric for the great recommendation. Thank you to all at the Strand for a top class experience. I will be back soon.

Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you. The food is too class ,the service is friendly and the price is super value. Myself & hubbie dined here on Friday 31st July and we would give it top marks. We both went for specials I had seafood linguine which was amazing full of fresh fish mussels mink fish prawns I forced myself to finish it even though I was full to brim the hubbie had sea bass that was cooked to perfection and wings to start. Definately worth a visit in this slumber but stunning town .We will definately be back Thanks to all staff and chefs

We pre booked a table and it wasn’t ready when we arrived, seated 10 minutes after we were set to. Cutlery had dirt on them. Staff complained to us that we shouldn’t complain because they are under staffed. 20 minutes after we sat down our order was taken; food didn’t arrive until 30 minutes after we ordered (5) portions. The food was expensive and very poor customer service. Once we attempted to pay the bill, a extra meal was added to our bill that we hadn’t ordered. The staff didn’t come to ensure we were enjoying our meal. Had one girl one the floor who wasn’t allowed to take any orders so our table and others had to request for a waiter to come to take our orders and as a result we were left waiting for a long period of time. The owner was present at all times and he mad no attempt rectify any problems that occurred. I over heard another person asking for the ingredients as their partner had a nut allergy. They were told it wasn’t a issue as it was only coconut milk and the chef wasn’t going to change the allergy notes listed on the menu and wasn’t going to alter the dish to accommodate her. We won’t be eating here again. Very unsatisfactory.

We decided to give The Strand a try under its new owners recently after a walk on the beach recently. The pub has been freshly painted and brightened up considerably, its nice and comfortable without any standout character. I ordered Lemon sole and home made chips, I asked for plenty of chips and to leave off the side salad which came as standard, all I wanted was fish and chips basically as Duncannon has it's own fishing boats and I love fresh fish. My partner chose a salad. I also ordered a shandy and a coffee. We were served by a friendly woman who was quick and easy to deal with. When the food arrived it looked like just what I had hoped for, 3 fillets of sole in breadcrumbs and a plate of what looked like home made chips. As I tucked in I have to admit my enthusiasm faded as I dont think the chips were home made, I could be wrong but they were very dry and a bit tasteless, the sole was utterly tasteless and if I was to guess, from the freezer, but again I might be wrong. My partners salad was nice in fairness. On the bill I was charged for a Pint of ale but ordered a shandy, small thing I know, I was aslo charged for extra chips ( I said I was hungry in fairness) even though I left off the standard salad. The fish cost €17.50 which was a bit rich I thought. Overall I was disappointed but wouldn't say it was not a nice place.

Lovely window seat looking out to sea if you can reserve it, super hygienic and Covid compliant so you feel relaxed. Prices are quite expensive for standard of food. Nothing like the standard they had previously in Templar’s. Need to up the fresh fish offerings. Too many deep fried foods on the menu. Awful commercially bought in barbecue sauce on wings - yuk! Couldn’t eat it. No dressing on salad- food eaten in a restaurant should be better than you could produce at home and this definitely wasn’t!

A fabulous setting for food, indoors or outdoors, the staff are friendly and will advise on what is best to eat. But Have the prawn and monk fish Thai green curry, you will not be disappointed. Bursting with flavour. Top marks to the Chef. Also a big thank you to Sean for looking after us.

We visit duncannon regularly and eat in both pubs; but on our last two visits to the strand tavern (since its revamp under new ownership) its very clear to see that the new management only want this as a restaurant and the pub feel is completely gone. We felt uncomfortable sitting at the bar having a drink as it’s not geared toward just going in to enjoy a drink which is unfortunate as the new decor has really given the strand a new lease of life. Food is average at best and a little pricey. My advice is run the pub and restaurant on a level par or risk losing trade.

10 of us have just had a beautiful meal. The food for the children and the adults meals were absolutely delicious. The staff were extremely efficient and friendly. The portion sizes were extremely generous and there is also an option to order smaller sizes fit smaller appetites at a cheaper price. I, as well as all in my party, would highly recommend The Strand in the future.
Thank you,
Rachel Burke.

Staying nearby in Ballyhack we went for a meal twice here, at the start and end of the week. They just do everything really well. You need to book in advance although there is a chance of a walk in. As its beside the beach it serves that type of good tasty food that you fancy on holiday. Great fish, as others have said, monkfish curry is top notch. Lemon sole as a special. Had a great chicken burger. Fantastic chowder. Good desserts. Good covid measures in place yet not too intrusive. Great value . Worth a visit if in the area.

Family meal out this evening. After having serious order envy the last time I was here I got the ribs today. Quite simply, the best meal of ribs I've ever had. My family, who had the curry and prawn scampi, were also delighted with theirs. Restaurants that are both reasonably priced and serve great food are real treasures. I hope The Strand, Duncannon continues to do well. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Great food. Impeccable service.
We ate here 3 times during a recent stay in Wexford. It was restricted to outdoor dining due to covid19 but the staff really did their thing getting everyone seated, and knowing demand would be high. They even brought out a bowl of water for our dog without being asked.
Food itself was great, highly recommend the scampi which had a great batter on it, nicest scampi I have had in Ireland.

Great to see the makeover of the Strand in Duncannon and great menu selection. The Thai curry is just fab with monkfish and prawns or curry and I love that you can get half and half. Great selection of other main courses and starters. Lovely new bar. Wishing Elaine and Sean all the best in their new location.

Had a family meal here tonight, June 30th 2020. First post COVID19 lockdown dinner out. It’s also my first time trying The Strand since the new team took over.
The food was great, we had mainly seafood dishes and they were so nice, lovely smoked salmon, great scampi and delicious chowder. The wings were also great, as was the sticky toffee pudding.
Staff were very friendly and professional, they immediately put us at ease (it’s weird being out after lockdown!).
The hygiene standards are impeccable, the safety measures for COVID19 couldn’t be better.
I’m delighted to see this place doing such nice food, the previous owners had let the pub get old, run down and the food was really awful. This new team (from Templar’s Pub) have given the place a fantastic renovation and are serving up delicious food.
Full marks! Some of us will be back this week!
