I dropped in last night just before getting my train. My initial impression was a favourable one. The pub seemed lively with people enjoying pre-Christmas drinks and I enjoyed a lovely pint of Guinness (the young landlord of from Co Mayo and I’ve just returned...More

Sausage was a bit overdone. Fish was good, chips and peas were so so. Service was nice. Would maybe come again if in the area for drinks.

Barman made a sarcastic comment to us as he thought we said we wanted to pay together. Waitress leaned over our table to collect a glass and nearly knocked the glass out of my friends hand. Not the level of welcoming and service you expect...More

Hi Richard. Feedback noted and incident discussed with the team and other guests present on the day. Review feels a little unfair but we are all entitled to our own opinions. Best wishes.

Service, 10/10. Food 10/10. For me, the benchmark is a real pie, with pastry all around, not just a stew in a pot with a puff pastry lid. This was real. And delicious. Five of us ate here, we all chose off the set price...More

Description
Welcome to The Railway Tavern You will find The Railway Tavern in Richmond within a short stroll of Twickenham, Mortlake and Ham - however you won't find another like it. Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality. A fascinating past The Railway Tavern was known in 1855 as The Railway Hotel, one of several pubs in the famous Quadrant of Richmond. In Victorian days the pub also offered rooms to its patrons, perhaps for sleep after one too many at the bar - or for those catching an early train. Today, the rooms have gone, but the pub remains and has been restored to its former glory. In fact, it's the perfect railway waiting room. One of a kind The Railway Tavern is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.
