Flat White is one of many today's cafes and restaurants which are nearly flawless: the "right" decor, the "right" service, the "right" home-made-feel-good food. Everything is "right" here, to the point of being boring (it is), overpriced (it is, when you pay 2.40 for an espresso), playing hard to get (queuing outside is "right") and so on. Superb eggs and... Visited flat white cafe, Durham on Easter Monday - tucked away nicely from main shops - lovely character. Staff very helpful and friendly - cakes were amazing and coffee fabulous - we had a coffee snob with us and it passed the test with him!! Quite reasonable priced as quality of food very good - will definitely return.

Definatly the best cafe in Durham city. The food is deliciuous , incredible decoration and nice service. The only bad point is that most of the time there is a queue to get a table! The prices are slight more expensive than the others local cofes, but its worth to go.

If you were ever wondering what the perfectly prepared coffee was like look no further than Flat White in Durham. I order their namesake and every time I'm impressed with the smooth, silk like texture that only happens through the skilled talents of a top notch barista.

The mothership of the winner of my family's presitgious 'Best Meal on Holiday' (Flat White Kitchen), we enjoyed a fab cofffee here before hitting the road south. The proprietor made my perfect flat white and a quick chat with him will go a long way to explaining why this place nails it. He loves the coffee. And the slices -... More

A great rather secluded venue for a final breakfast after we all went our separate way after a fabulous weekend singing in Durham. We all pronounced the food fabulous: from bacon sandwiches to smoked salmon bagels - to an indulgent and delicious date slice. 'The best flat white I've ever had' said my discerning friend. Lovely service too. Highly recommended,... More

It was daddy day care and obviously we popped in to a cafe for cake and coffee! It was lovely. Nice coffee for me, lemonade and a great cake for my 7yr old. It was very civilised with nice table decorations, exposed brickwork and attentive staff. She finished off a bit of colouring and I got to chat to my... More

A definate visit if you are ever in durham. I had the soup (roasted red pepper, roasted tomato, basil pesto and creme fraise) and was apprehensive as I dont particularly like red pepper. However, it was absolutely delicious, a big portion served with a warm roll. The interior is really relaxed yet arty and pleasant to sit in. The service... More

Definitely worth coming here rather than the bigger version just round the corner, which often has a queue outside. Good coffee & very nice cakes/food, not a huge selection, but then it's fresh. Not cheap & not a lot of space, but if you are looking for a classy, independent coffee shop, this is a good place to start.

Description
Located on Saddler Street, just seconds away from Durham Cathedral, is Flat White Durham's latest venture: Flat White Kitchen. The five-story 16th century property has been restored back to its original splendour and is a meld of stripped-wood, copper pipes and bare brick alongside opulent French mirrors and fresh flowers. The coffee offering showcases the owners' talents, who opened their first cafe after working alongside some of Australia's greatest roasters. Five years on, the two are still regulars on the coffee machine, passing on their talents to only a select few who make the cut. The food offering from Flat White Kitchen is equally as perfected as the coffee. A strong, kitchen team has been hand selected from the finest northern restaurants to ensure that the menu is as strong as the reputation.
