Visited last friday evening for a couple of drinks and food which were good and served by friendly welcoming staff.there was an open fire but the seats near it were already taken! A comfortable traditional pub.

I have never been to the John Peel but decided to call in at lunchtime. We had a tuna pasta bake and a stack burger. Really good hot homemade food. I'm not a fan of garnish or the sweetcorn in the bake but other than that the food was first class. Nice surroundings - would call again!

Boxing Day evening and looking for a bite to eat, barmaid was lovely and suggested a seat by the fire. Nothing fancy on the menu but well cooked and plenty of it.

I've been coming to bowness for many years. And I've always walked past the old john peel. Up until few days ago when went away for my birthday with my partner and my daughter. Popped in on way back to lodge, and it's lovely inside. Very welcoming and friendly, lovely mulled wine and mince pie. The traditional ales are nice... More

Currently enjoying a cosy visit with a pint in hand. Nice and friendly with plenty of seating. Just the ticket after a day if walking in bones.

We visited over the weekend was good that they accepted dogs. Was great food and reasonable price. Only thing that let the place down was the lady behind the bar with blue hair was very rude and had bad customer service.

A cold wet windy night and we were looking for somewhere that allowed dogs and served food. The John Peel is opposite the Beatrix Potter museum and ticks all the boxes. We had the Grill which consisted of pork, lamb, steak, gammon and more ... and the Tuna pasta bake which was delicious. The staff were pleasant and friendly. A... More

We were wandering around Bowness on a Saturday afternoon trying to find somewhere to eat, having tried a number of spots we stumbled across this place, I'm glad we did. There is no bare wood, polished marble or slate plates here, this is good honest pub grub served by a good bunch. The place was quiet when we rocked up... More

Just returned from four days in Windermere, saw that John Peel Inn let dogs into pub, coal fire on and as long as you were near it was nice and warm, if you were in the opposite end of room it was very cool. The food was ok, nothing great, lamb stew with dumpling frozen chips, frozen veg, and sizzling... More
