Whilst on holiday in Bowness I popped in here for a pint on a couple of occasions. Whilst it undoubtedly has atmosphere I think that the staff could be friendlier and the décor needs a freshen up especially the carpeting.

Called in for a drink interesting old pub, the man behind the bar basically just did his job which is fair enough but it did not give out a friendly atmosphere, for this reason would not be in a hurry to go back.

This is the oldest pub in Bowness, built in 1612. Great beers, wines, and very good pub food too. Live music on a Friday, get in early or you'll not find a table free for your meal. Great atmosphere, very cosy with real fires and...More

Arrive early on a weekend to get a table and you won't regret it. 3 out of 4 of us had lamb Henry which is melt in the mouth delicious. Lovely quirky oldy worldy ambiance. We'll be back!

We visited this pub several times during our recent stay in Bowness. On each occasion we made to feel more than welcome both when just popping in for or a drink or for a delicious e-mail. There are lovely roaring fires to sit beside and...More

Sorry, I have no idea. It is certainly a pub that opens all year but I don’t know about Christmas Day. If I would you I would just give them a ring.

I confirmed that table booking is not available. Only way is go to pub before 6 pm, dining room opening time.
