After our somewhat dismal meal at st. Ola next door. This was a very stark contrast in all aspects. The food was incredible and such a warm and friendly place. The staff are great from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. Would...More

Friendly place with good range of drinks and cocktails. Good atmosphere. Had dinner which was grim. A mountain of smoked salmon which was tasteless and served with hard biscuits. My husbands food was all deep fried and tasteless. The spicy cheese fondue was too hot...More

It's funny that this has appeared on here, as the customer at the time insisted that the fondue was a little hot for them and it was purely their own taste, not the fondue at fault. Even insisting this again when they were offered something...More

I was in Orkney just over Easter. During my planning I was concerned about food and beverage options. The streets of Kirkwall were understandably quiet on a holiday weekend, so lo and behold a boisterous fest inside Helgi's drew my attention. Live music, great pours...More

Went here with some friends for an after work drink. It wasn’t busy so no problem getting a seat. When I went to the bar, the bar staff just looked at me until I tentatively asked if I could order some drinks. When I did...More

Had lunch here on Monday with friends and as a vegetarian I was not disappointed with the choices available to me. I had a triple cheese toasted sandwich which was yummy. The food was well presented, beautifully cooked and the surroundings lovely.

Bit pricey, but that keeps the riff raff out. Cosy, good food, friendly staff, nice ale. Worth a look.

I visited on two occasions for dinner and was a little disappointed with the food on both times. The pub has a great atmosphere and decor with a good selection of local and international alcoholic drinks. It seems very popular with locals of all ages....More

Each time I come to Kirkwall, I head fro Helgis...a pint and Fish & chips, or a burger sets me up perfectly. the place is always warm and friendly and filled with local folks. I just like the atmosphere!

Enjoyed local beer and fish and chips. Not so quiet, but alive with folks having a good time. Had a table on first floor(ground level) where we didn't miss anything while still having our own private space for conversation.

Helgi's has certainly benefitted from the recent explosion in tourist trade. Highly rated here on Tripadvisor and a favorite of the locals, it is often busy... VERY busy. You must make reservations well ahead of time. They will ask you if an hour is enough...More

Firstly it is important for any new visitors trying to book or visit Helgi's to know that we are an over 18's only bar. That includes throughout the building and at all times. Helgi's is a small cosy pub overlooking the harbour. We serve good pub food of the home cooking variety, trying to use local produce where possible. We have a great selection of local ales in bottles and three Rob Hill ales on draft, we also have a good selection of Orcadian and Scottish whisky, and our wine list has been selected by our local wine expert, Duncan McLean from Kirkness & Gorie. We also offer a great selection of cocktails, beers and spirits. Please be aware that we have an over 18's only licence, which means that we cannot allow children, even for meals.
