We popped into the Three Tuns in Hay for an impromptu lunch, without booking a table. We were visiting the area.It was almost the end of the lunch session. This proved no problem for the staff, who welcomed us warmly and found a table which...More

We spent an enjoyable evening in this pub. Sadly our dog was not allowed in so we had to sit outside on a rather chilly evening. Staff kindly put on outside heating for us which was nice.

We had lunch on 30th July, and it closed that evening. Pity, because the roast beef was a decent proportion of a good cut, and I'd rather that' farmers' approach' to food than some fancifully decorated small offering. We were able to retrieve our sunglasses...More

Had a delicious Sunday lunch at this establishment. It was very busy, but they squeezed us in. The roast pork was very tender and there were plenty of vegetables. Nice, friendly atmosphere.

Nice interior. Great outdoor courtyard space. Sell locally brewed beer The chef is creative, being polite. Pulled Pork Risotto, Pork Crackling, Sea Bass and Scallop. Had doubts about this combo but tried it. Flavours and presentation get top marks. Each element cooked perfectly The combination...More

I highly encourage you to visit this old pub. Make sure you eat in the older sections. They are very quaint and authentic. The staff is wonderful and accommodating

Popped in on the off chance of finding a table on Sunday with my family. We all had the roast beef and it was absolutely delicious! The beef was served rare and was full of flavour and it was melt in the mouth tender. Yorkshire...More

We called in here for Sunday lunch on our way to Leominster. The staff were very pleasant and we ordered Roast Pork. The meal was okay, plenty of meat well cooked and some nice crackling but the vegetables were underdone, although I don't mind them...More

Had really nice evening meal. The main course was above the average pub grub and the desserts are really good home made puds

We have had drinks/lunch at the Three Tuns before...about 3 years ago,but standards appear to have dropped, along with the number of customers. Lovely sunny day, but only one person outside@1.45pm...it used to be difficult to get a lunchtime table outside(about 50 places). Inside, were...More

The three tuns is now closed so I'm glad you asked. Us as locals are devastated as the food was sublime. I believe it's on the market so await new owners and what they'll do with it?

Description
The Three Tuns dates back to the early 16th Century - although some records make even earlier reference to this, the oldest pub in Hay on Wye.Famous for its unique charm and character, Three Tuns became a popular haunt with local characters and well known personalities such as Jools Holland, Marianne Faithful, Neil Kinnock, Huw Edwards and some as infamous as the Great Train Robbers!Unfortunately the Three Tuns suffered a devastating fire in 2005, but a sympathetic restoration has brought life to the old building once again.Enjoy the huge inglenook fires, 16th century beams and the sympathetic new additions such as the garden room and large beer garden
