Friends and I headed down from Kildare just for some amazing coffee and we weren't disappointed! Very helpful and informative staff, really interesting choosing coffee blends. Was a little disappointed when I only had 2 choices of non dairy milk BUT I feel the the...choices they had complimented the coffee perfectly. The croissants are a must! I wish they had more sheltered outdoor seating. I can't wait to go back.More

This is the spot for people who enjoy excellent coffee. Worth driving for, there is nowhere within a hundred miles or more that can rival it. It is for grown ups who appreciate authenticity, beautiful design, stunning views and confident service.

I'm just after spending a minor fortune in this establishment. Twice. And I'm now the proud owner of some extremely beautiful coffee paraphernalia that I've been longing after for a very long time. And all thanks to excellent service from the staff. Every detail from...making you feel welcome and important to explaining in detail the different ground types, coffee types and what works where - they didn't just sell me products but also an experience. And all that before I'd even tasted their excellent coffee. I see people give out about this place being an adult only venue. But if you come here as an adult with no kids, you get a fantastic coffee experience and not just a mere takeaway latte. What an absolute fantastic place to happen upon.More

Visited here twice in one week. First visit I made the mistake of having my kids, we had just seen the “adult only” sign when we were “very politely” ushered off the premises. I’ve absolutely nothing against adult only spots, my pre-children self would’ve only...loved it - just the way it was done seemed a little formal/pretentious. Chanced it one more time on the way back from our hols to give them the benefit of the doubt. And coz we love coffee! It’s grand. The coffee is decent. There’s a sign on the counter telling you that you should only park your car in their car park for a short amount of time. There’s another sign saying “display cakes” beside a display of cakes. And a staff member who also tells you they are display cakes. My overall impression is that while the coffee is good, this place should maybe lighten up with their counter signage. And their adult only signage. Kid free zones can be relaxing and craic too!!! Or consider just doing drive through. Might eliminate any confusion about children, parking and display cakes 😬More

First visit here, party included a 3 month old baby. Purchased coffee etc and sat OUTSIDE. Was asked to leave due to NO CHILD POLICY. Baby was very quiet and not taking up a seat. We were not sitting near other customers. Will not be...returning.More

I had not visited here in the past and made the plan to this week. It is down the side of the side section of Matt The Threshers pub and a little turn off on the left. On parking you can see it is open...with a conservatory like glass effect, showcasing the activity of the baristas inside. They work from a really attractive and pure looking slab of stone, which coffee taps rise through. The barista asked how I like my coffee. I told him I prefer it strong. He patiently explained the dark bean, to the region the others come from. I am sure he talks about it many times a day so well done and I am sure the passion helps. The coffee tasted as good and good value for all the time given to each customer @ 3.50. I did see the signs about "due to the nature of our business adults only" . There are many other places - actually all other places in Munster that welcome kids. This place is definitely in the minority in this regard, with not welcoming kids but moving in the direction of turning them away. That said the business is rare in how it is set up and the coffee equipment it uses and sells instore I was impressed by. The coffee tastes as the batista promised - Strong and really really good.More

I visited today with my 11 month old son with the intention of purchasing a takeaway coffee and leaving again. Once I requested a takeaway coffee, I was informed my infant son was not welcome and would have to wait in the car ON HIS...OWN. Let that sink in, a shop believing it acceptable to leave an infant in a car. I can’t put into words how irresponsible a statement this is or how a company and their staff feel this is acceptable. Evidently this shop lacks any values and morales when it is found acceptable to enforce the abandonment of infants in a car. Additionally the manner in which this statement was delivered was ignorant, cold and disregarding which underlines the lack of regard this shop has for children and infants. In my naivety I believed Ireland had become a more inclusive space for all but this has checked my expectations and realise some establishments such as the Old Barracks have a lot of work to do.More

Any place that has a sign that reads ‘Adult only Zone - Leave your child in the car’ when it’s close to 30 degrees in the car, gets the level of respect it deserves from me…..none! I’ve been a customer for quite awhile and would...often detour from the motorway to Birdhill to pick up a coffee when I have the time. We did so today. My girlfriend and I had our niece with us today and when we arrived at the Old Barracks, we all got out because it was so warm. I spotted the welcoming sign on the way in the door but to be honest thought it was a joke. I’ve since read that this is how the Old Barracks have set themselves up, a space for adults without having to acknowledge the existence of children. Pretentious right!! To our detriment, we hadn’t realised this before today but we needn’t have worried because we weren’t even inside the door when a member of staff pointed at the young girl and ignorantly said to us that she was not to be on site. When asked why this was the case, we were once again just told that it’s the policy and she’d have to wait in the car. The level of arrogance in how the message was delivered to us, in front of a number of other customers, was exactly while we turned on our heels and left without spending a penny. Maybe the Old Barracks are secure in terms of trade and volume of customers, but today they lost 2.More

Possibly the most helpful and obliging staff I've dealt with in a long time. Went above and beyond for me as I had a special request. Both the food and coffee are top notch and the staff are great. This place offers both customer service...and quality in droves. Definitely worth a visit. The Cannoli's are the business.More

Been to this place many times whenever we pass by Birdhill. I am a coffee enthusiast and I would suggest that all coffee lovers come here. The coffee is one of the best in country, as well as the beautiful view and amazing staff. Got...great advice on how to make perfect coffee at home also. While it was fantastic the first time I came, it kept improving every time. Quite pricey for coffee but it's worth it.More
