I don’t mind if a place is busy and service is slow but I do mind being ripped off
I ordered a draft beer normal price is between £4.20 to £4.50 - I got charged £5.05 - I know pubs had a hard time but...really that is tearing the ring out of it
Guess who is not returning everMore
Went with my daughter and was really happy with the setting by the canal, the flower arrangements and the staff were very nice. However the menu was very disappointing, only vegan main was a green salad, it all lacked imagination and focussed on the fried....We ordered a kids burger with salad, which came with chips and let’s say it’s hard for a child to not want to finish their burger and chips, but this was the case, it was dry and uninspired. I had schnitzel which was advertised as Norfolk chicken, maybe it was, but it appeared frozen and reformed rather than fresh, the accompanying Cesar salad was iceberg rather than cos and anchovies okay but not very salty, the dressing was okay. It would also be nice to have a non smoking section outside as not everyone is outside to smoke. It’s a shame as this is a lovely setting and the staff were friendly and kind, please give it the good it deserves!More
Stopped here for lunch on Sunday, excellent location with a lovely terrace overlooking the canal.
Very polite and helpful staff and the food arrived quickly. I would definitely recommend the Sunday roast.
I’ll start with the positives. Venue and location are really nice and staff are very pleasant.
Food…… pretty awful to be honest. Triple cooked chips were dry, empty shells, I wonder if triple cooked means they are reheated leftovers from 3 days ago? The fish...was edible. Burgers were mediocre and mistakes made with the order.
The worst of the lot was the vegan club sandwich which was layered on the most boring, cheap, white sliced bread you could find. One layer was avocado which is pretty hard to mess up so was feeling hopeful, them came a layer of vegan cheese which looked like it had begun its life with the triple cooked chips and finally a layer of uncooked/prepared plain tofu. Tofu is a dish that has to be marinated or fried but to serve raw on white bread….. who came up with that idea?
Most of the food remained on our plates and the manager did refund us for three meals and was very apologetic. I don’t particularly like paying up front for food -how can you pay a tip prior to receiving your food or service? However, I won’t be eating there again.More
We visited for Sunday lunch and were very glad we did. Two large and tasty roast beefs washed down by well kept ESBs. The service was exemplary, being both efficient and attentive without being too intrusive, a trick a few other establishments could learn! Talking...of which, we did see that once a table was vacated it wound be cleared and sanitised ready for the next guests (and we were made to feel that we were honoured guests). Well done to all at the LSB!More
Came here early afternoon to do some work and have some lunch with a couple of soft drinks. Ended up being one of the hottest days of the year so after I finished my work I decided to stay and enjoy a couple of beverages....Ended up staying there longer than expected and even had friends join me later that evening for a spot of dinner. All food was excellent, drinks were delicious and the staff were more than friendly. App was easy to use and the variety of selection was perfect.
I look forwards to when the sun is out as this is now my stop off pub in the evenings to enjoy a beer. Roll on the weekends.More
My son and I spotted this place, whilst walking through Newbury, on a hot day. Lovely spot over looking a lock of the Kennet and Avon canal, so decided to grab some lunch.
Usual Covid protocols on entry and told orders were through the Fullers...app, found a table overlooking the lock and watched various barges use it during our visit. Couldn't believe how quite the setting was, since we were only a few hundred meters off the main street.
Service was pleasant enough, without being anything special , app worked fine, My haddock and chips was pretty good/tasty at £14, drinks were a bit pricey , compared to other establishments nearby.
Looking at other reviews, maybe we caugth them on a good day but I can only speak as I find and we enjoyed our lunch there.More
We came here for a drink early evening as we were having dinner in the town and it looked quite nice and inviting from the nearby bridge. Upon being seated we were told we had to order and pay via the app and couldn’t place...an order directly with the bar staff who were frequently walking past. After working out what to do and being asked for email address, phone number and all credit card details the 4g signal went and we had to start again we decided it wasn’t wasn’t worth the bother and left. I don’t see why the staff can’t take an order. After reading the recent reviews I’m glad we didn’t stay.More
