We called in for a coffee and cake when staying at Craigendarroch, very good coffee and an exceptionally good carrot cake with chopped cranberries. The scones were also very good. Friendly, helpful staff.

Have been visiting Rock Salt & Snails for several years - they serve great coffee and scones/cakes and light lunches. We enjoy the background music - good jazz at a reasonable level - such a pleasant change from most places where it is just loud and seems to be for the staff rather than the customers. We have had lunch... More

pie was delicious, scones were very tasty, and the soup was also very tasty, service was great and we were all kept toasty and warm after a cold walk around the balmoral cairns

Stayed at Craiggendaroch Hilton up the road & took a visit to Rocksalt & Snails for lunch. Beautiful paninis & bagels at good cost! Big wedge of red velvet after, came away content and full! Will go again!

We ate lunch here and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The decor is fairly rustic and we got one of the last tables left (a good sign). The staff were friendly and vibrant, even though it was quite busy. The menu had a few options and we both decided on a pie (I had the... More

Visited today with my elderly mother. Lovely little eatery in Ballater. We both had a spicy thai chicken noodle soup which was very nice. We did not sample the cakes but have to say they looked delicious. Staff were very polite and attentive.

We have been visiting the highlands for many years every autumn and the last few years have been dedicated fans of Rock Salt and Snails. It is a wonderful place to have a snack or a lunch etc. Lovely food, all fresh and great cakes too. The recommended lunch for us is the Rocksalt & Snails Platter!

They have a few outside tables - unusual in Ballater if you are a group of 4. We thought the coffee was good and the service prompt and friendly. Intended to return but ran out of time. Would certainly be interested to sample food. Not open in the evenings when we were there.
