Fairly local to us but have not visited in a while. Am pleased that they have good COVID measures and staff all adhering to them. Popped by one lunchtime on a very sunny day, knowing they have a large garden. It was busy but we...managed to get a table. Great choice of food and service was spot on. Had a lovely cod loin with chorizo and caper butter. Delicious. Will be back soon.More

We had a lovely evening at this pub, the surroundings were lovely (helped by the beautiful sunset) , the staff were attentive without being overbearing. We weren’t rushed at all and you were left to enjoy our meal at our leisure, which at the moment...is quite difficult to find in a lot of places. The food was lovely and the portions spot on for us. The bill wasn’t heart stopping either and there was 7 of us. Covid was adhered very well, with out making you feel like a nervous wreck. Would recommend and will definitely return.More

Organised a table for 7 at this restaurant for a Birthday celebration for my Father in law, having read the reviews. Noticed upon arrival that it was extremely busy, we had a very warm welcome and our table was ready. Food was great, service from all...staff was friendly ,warm and first class. Not rushed at the table for any course. Highly recommend this place. Definitely a place that we will call again. Big thank you to you all.👍👍👍,More

What a lovely pub with a massive garden area and plenty of space for all and a lovely Countryside outlook, greeting was warm and friendly and certainly no shortage of staff to look after your every need, the menu was extensive considering the current situation...and the food was great in both taste and presentation, the prices were also reasonable considering most places have increased them to a stupid level, the wines on offer were excellent and we had a lovely time in an extremely busy place, look forward to going back to try it againMore

Our warmly greeted arrival was followed by almost instant taking of drink orders. The extensive and mouth-watering menus made choices a little difficult. Once made, our choices were freshly cooked to perfection and quickly served. The belly pork starter was without doubt the best I...have ever had and the cheese platter a very tasty platefull. All of our choices were beautifully presented and the generosity of the portions was the only reason that some remained uneaten. Top of my go again list.More

First visit since last summer for a family (4) outing. Well worth it service friendly and efficient. Starters of baby squid, duck pancakes and chicken wings, mains of cod and a good steak. Beautifully cooked altogether a most enjoyable meal.

So my first meal out since lockdown easing and who better to have it with than the oldies my uncle and aunt in Colchester, the destination their favourite pub The Wooden Fender in Ardleigh, Essex. Firstly what a team, from the minute we arrived so...welcoming, friendly and extremely professional. From the start of the visit to the end we were made to feel special and everyone one of the crew seemed to be pleased to be back. The surroundings had been revamped since lockdown but still had that cosey country pub style. I must admit I didn’t over examine the menu but certainly a wide range of options from simple pub tapas, to your classic steaks or summer salads. I had been craving gammon steak for a while I mean a proper gammon steak not the supermarket reformed stuff and this did not disappoint, perfectly cooked and the right level of salt to get the lips smacking, 2 beautifully cooked eggs with perfect yolks on a couple of pineapple rings and crispy well cooked chips I was in heaven. I went for the classic Eaton Mess for desert which was thick and creamy but with wonderfully chewy meringue. Put simply what a great place to meet my family for the first time in a while and to share our first meal out in what seemed an age, covid measures could not have been better and we all left on a high, I’ll be back and I know my uncle and auntie will become once again loyal regulars.More

Visited today for my mums 80th Birthday. Was first time she has been out for a meal for such a long time due to covid. Was worried about taking her but I didn't need to be. The pub staff were great and very welcoming. The...food was really good. Great place to go. The shelter was adequate and as we were wrapped up it was all ok. As with the current situation with eating outside, you have to expect that they can only do so much. The marquee wasn't heated but is up against the pub and fence so is about as good as you can get. The area was well ventilated. No issues with access as my mum is disabled. Big thank you to the staff, chef and manager. Lovely place and we will happily go back too. I think the food was above the standard that I would expect at a pub type venue...really worth a visit.More
