We had dinner twice here during a recent stay and had a very nice time. The service was good without being intrusive and the menu provided an imaginative choice using local produce wherever possible. We are not big eaters so struggled to clear our plates, but didn't really mind. The wine list provides a good range at very reasonable prices... More

We stayed overnight in the hotel (which incidentally, is highly recommended) and we had booked for the Valentine's dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the five delicious courses, including roasted pepper soup, smoked meats produced in house, guinea fowl and creme brûlée. A single red rose had thoughtfully been provided for each lady and the service was attentive but not overbearing. Nothing... More

Generous portions, good choice. Quite expensive - for example £25 per head for dinner and £14 per head for breakfast.

A fair amount of choice, and the actual quality of the food was outstanding, Well presented and evidently some homegrown items. I felt a bit spoilt for eating out on a school night but it was well worth the experience. I spoke to a couple that were also dining and they live locally but go there for dinner occasionally. High... More

We stayed here and so ate dinner and breakfast. The food was excellent - unusual, tasty and well presented. Good value for the quality, too. Lots of duck egg based dishes as options in the breakfast menu from the free range ducks in the garden.

Stayed at this hotel for one night on route to Dorset, great hotel! When we arrived the check-in process was painless and quick. Rooms were nice and spacious, we had the room to the rear of the hotel overlooking part of the garden. I noticed a little dust in certain places but overall the places was clean. I did notice that... We came back for lunch in May to celebrate my birthday - we being my Golden Retriever, my 93-year-old mother and I. As ever, the welcome was warm and genuine - John is a delightful host - and it was lovely to see Marc returned after a time away. Welcome back, Marc! The food was even better than before, with... We had a wonderful meal, well served and in a very pleasant room. Three things intended as constructive criticism. Ensure Coke is not flat when served to guests. Removed dead flowers in slim green water from tables. Having put out side plates with a knife, serve some bread and butter otherwise I see no point in them being there. Would... More

Description
We have extensive orchards producing figs, apples, cherries, medlars, grapes, quinces, pears, cobnuts, sweet chestnuts, walnuts, mulberries, raspberries, rhubarb, apricot and plums and of course, our herb beds. Our surplus fruits go into jam and Ice cream production, also jus, gravies and Coulis. For that extra “je ne sais quoi” We rear our own pigs and we are enjoying sausages from the shoulder meat, bacon and delightfully lean pork joints. In particular, we are very proud of the wet and dry curing of our pork which makes the tastiest of traditional ham and Prosciutto. This year, we are rearing a flock of free-range Norfolk Bronze turkeys & have established a breeding flock of guinea fowl which will (eventually) feature year round on our menu.Over the summer months, our Greenhouse supplied the kitchen with terrific quantities of really delicious green peppers, chillies, salad leaf, tomatoes and beans. We have recently planted a range of autumn & winter seeds and we are now growing our own mushrooms year round. Our home cured Gravadlax is excellent. We home smoke on a traditional wood fire our own salmon, chicken, Duck and Pork to add a further dimension of flavour. Our local family butcher carefully matures, cuts and delivers the very finest of produce from local farms, some just a mile from Farthings. Our fishmonger is based at West-Bay Bridport. Just 20-minutes away where they land and deliver fresh fish daily, the very finest of produce our seas have to offer. Our scallops are from Lyme Bay and mussels from the River Fowey in Cornwall. Each dish that we produce for you is carefully & individually prepared to order, so please do allow a little time for this to take place. Our philosophy is to use the very finest of fresh, local and seasonal produce, simply cooked and elegantly presented. I hope you enjoy.
