This is one of the oldest, if not the oldest pub in Trondheim, and although much of it was reconstructed after a fire a few years ago, the reconstruction appears to be perfect - I couldn’t tell which parts were ancient and which modern.
This...is primarily a drinking venue with an extensive list of domestic and international beers and ciders, a large selection of spirits (the whisky selection looked particularly good though I was there early in the evening and didn’t venture in that direction). There is also a short but interesting cocktail menu.
The pub does not have its own kitchen but has an agreement with the adjacent Egon restaurant which allows it to provide a simple menu (think burgers and pizzas). Unusually for Norway, which is one of the best places in the world for those of us on a gluten-free diet, there was literally nothing suitable for me on the menu. This is a little surprising as the bar offers no less than three gluten-free beers.
Perhaps the highlight of the visit was the extremely friendly and helpful staff - ready and able to advise on the extensive range on offer.
Another pleasant surprise was a well-sheltered and heated outdoor area where those who wish to smoke can do so in relative comfort even in winter (and it was -5C/23F when I was there).
Prices are in line with elsewhere in Norway. Those from New York, London or Tokyo will not be shocked but for others, they are eye watering...More
