I've been here with two friends for an hour. we all enjoyed different brunch options (also some for vegetarians available) and fresh coffee. It's a nice, relaxing atmosphere with cozy couches, lots of decoration and friendly staff. A very calming place, we could've stayed forever. However, one thing I have to criticise: my friend had a dark hair on her... More

Typical place for an idea how these places all looked 50 years ago. The tapistry has not been changed since 1960 but I liked it. Good place to read a news paper. Service is ok for Vienna

Right around the corner from our hotel, we stumbled upon the Jelinek by accident . . . and went back practically every day for a week. You can tell it's been frequented - and enjoyed - by generations of Viennese. It's one of those places with real atmosphere, not designed atmosphere. Which is why it is truly warm (in both... More

Great atmosphere. Not modern but very traditional, full of people talking, reading, studying. Good breakfasts and snacks. Friendly staff. A great place to relax and enjoy

Definitely an old style café with a lot of character. However, it would benefit from a little refresh, and maybe a bit higher quality in service and possibly food (I tried a below average quality but definitely homemade Linder Torte: almost no jam, lots of dough without the right taste). Would favour Café Sperl pretty close by.

If your priority is the coffee house experience with a very European and evenmore Viennese surroundings, this may be the place for you. It is early-modern style with very nice coffee and many newspapers/magazines to read (almost all in German language). There's wifi. In contrast, newspaper sticks (like the ones in libraries and some French cafes), uniform dressed waiters, aged... More

Stressed people are not welcome here, so sit down, relax and enjoy one of the last classic Viennese cafes.

If people watching is your thing then Cafe Jelinek gives you a (shabby-chic)?front row seat on Viennese life. It has none of the fawning silliness of tourist infested cafes in the center, and lots of authentic charm. I wandered in by chance on a crisp winter's day, attracted by the steamed up windows, an ancient shining metal stove and heaps... More

We went here for breakfast one morning. They had a good selection of breakfasts it was so hard to choose what to have. We went for the Sweet Viennese breakfast along with an egg plus a melange coffee. It was a good portion size and reasonably priced. The waiters were friendly and helpful and we were able to get an... Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
