Had visited Shalimar on 03Oct16 around 0830pm for dinner. Dinner portions are quite sumptuous (much more than what they give in India) and Very very tasty. It's one of the best and tasty Indian hotel food I have had in a long long time. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting this part of the City. Chandra

This was a great find and right in the neighborhood where we were staying. We ate outside and it was delightful. Excellent and authentic Indian food. Large portions. The waiter was so nice and accommodating. Excellent service. We highly recommend.

According to their homepage Shalimar is the oldest Indian Restaurant in Vienna. We went there for lunch on a Friday evening and made a Reservation in advance. We got a seat in the Pub garden which is located in the inner Yard, so it's quiet there. The Restaurant was not complettly full, so I guess it's also possible to get... More

I tried take away from this restaurant. The food was good and the packaging perfect. The size of the Naan is big so you need to order accordingly. Although their website gives option of online ordering, I was told that it is not possible, so they need to update their website

Great Indian food at the start of the Schmalzhofgasse. Small but easily visible. The attendants are really friendly and fast given the number of clients. Early bookings should be made if you want to have your food early. They offer most known Biryanis, fish Tika masala (My favorite) and all types of Nans.

The staff is very friendly and modest. The food was excellent. Though you need to be careful while ordering as the quantity is too much. I went there with 5 of my friends and had great time. Visit this resturant if you are looking for nice indian food.

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
