I am a regular guest at Gaumenspiel and as the saying goes they never cease to amaze me (in a very positive manner). Time and time again I am amazed and taken by their excellent food, perfect flavours and combinations and good service. I do try to avoid the biggest peaks to ensure the attention I always enjoy. Up until... More

After reading all reviews we visited Gaumenspiel with mixed feelings. Atmosphere is nice and cozy and We were given the table we liked. For the couvert (3.9 euro quite high) we were served nice bread variation, olive oil and 2 dips. That was fine. I have chosen one of the menu and my gf decided for the Pheasant with lentils... More

Our party of 12 visited this restaurant and enjoyed good food. The service was so slow that dinner took 3 hours! the saving grace was friendly service. I would visit this restaurant again.

Gaumenspiel is a nice looking restaurant with decent service. It is for that reason that I give it a second star. The restaurant intends to serve high end food, but fails miserably. The dishes we ordered were disjointed and unappealing. It was sad because the meat was properly seared and cooked, but surrounded by globs of weird-flavored, unrecognizable sauces that... More

We were on a week-long family reunion in Vienna - 8 of us - and, not being complete novices in this city with close family connections for us, ate mainly in 1st district traditional places just off the main tourist routes, which proved an excellent and good-value policy. Gaumenspiel is somewhat beyond the Ring, quite a walk for us all... More

To be short it is one of those places you should not recommend as you would like to keep it a secret as long as possible. We went on a Monday evening and as such the place was not busy and we got a nice table in the backyard (I highly recommend booking a table). We had a choice of... More

The food was delicious, inventive and beautifully presented. However, it took over 3 hours to eat our meal so we suspected that the kitchen was trying to service too many covers. It was a Saturday night and we had dropped in on the off-chance but it was very slow. The chefs were working very hard in the kitchen as were... More

I have been there three times and every time it gets better - last week I was there again for a 5-course dinner, invited by some friends. Well, this was a great dinner, with carefully selected wines and desserts. What I like more is the way they present their food and the taste they keep despite cooking - don't miss... More

One of the best restaurants in Vienna! I enjoyed a cosy birthday dinner in the beautiful inner yard. The food is delicious and the service is great. Thats my personal tip for an excellent restaurant!

We gotta card from the hotel and this restaurant was nearby. Place looks very good. Smell was very good. Service to make a appointment for the evening was very bad. So unfriendly. After a question about that... the man told me that all the restaurants in Austria where that way! Luckily there are also friendly restaurants where you can enjoy... More

Staying in Neubau

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s art district, Neubau buzzes with galleries, arts and crafts, trendy restaurants, avant-garde shops, and cafés. Neubau’s Spittelberg quarter with cobblestoned Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse make for a perfect stroll alongside Biedermeier houses and art shops. Don’t miss the historic courtyard at Amerlinghaus with its typical Pawlatschen galleries, a perfect hangout on a warm summer evening. Museumsquartier is Neubau’s undisputed highlight: the former Imperial stables house various top museums of 19th to 21st century art. If you love interiors, head for the Imperial Furniture museum (Hofmobiliendepot), one of the world’s largest furniture collections. Find your favorites among a dazzling array of Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau and Modernist chairs, sofas, cupboards, coat hangers, foot stools and wash basins. No weekend visit would be complete without stopping by a local café on a weekend morning for brunch.
