Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The cafe location is strategic with a beautiful interioir design, however expect to wait in line as it is crowded. We tried the popular sacher torte which honestly was a disappointment- it was dry and wasn’t tasty at all. Yet, having a look at the...menu I did find dishes which looked yummy. Worth the visit for food other than the torte !More

The "must do" cafe for the Original Sacher Torte. Busy to get in so get your timing right - slow service but the cake and coffee is delicious. A step back in time !

There was a short queue at about 1pm. Had waited almost 45 mins for my table. Host kept insisting that I take a table under the very hot sun which I rejected. Host told me they have a very big reservation at 2pm and I...should take the outdoor seating if I don’t want to wait. Sweet waitress came along and seated me at the winter garden ( thank you!). Order a schnitzel, chocolate cake and iced chocolate. Schnitzel came with a large salad in the side. Iced chocolate was super thick and I do not recommend it with the cake. Needless to say, I was super full that I skipped dinner. Cake was great, as usual!More

We waited in a queue for more than half an hour. Some people were entering from the side, which was really frustrating. It’s not worth it, seriously... even if they served that s**t on golden plates (spoiler: they don’t).

My wife had always dreamed of having sacher torte where it originated from, so we visited Cafe Sacher whilst in Vienna, with great expectations, but left profoundly disappointed. Whilst there is an air of grandeur, the service and food did not match the ambience. After...being shown to our seat, we waited as other later arrivals were served, before having to ask for a menu. The torte was underwhelming, and for the price (9,90 euro) we expected greater attention to detail with the presentation, clearly being cut with a dirty knife. The torte itself was dry, and not worth the hype it generates. We then had to ask twice for the bill. If it is on your bucket list, replace it with something better!More

It had been recommended to me as a staple of Vienna so I felt I had to try! The cake itself is not something I would say is particularly amazing, it is a relatively standard chocolate cake. I felt however I enjoyed it more because...of the experience, you can learn a lot about the history of the cake and the experience feels very luxurious in the decor! The staff are attentive and friendly. I wouldn’t necessarily return now I have tried the cake however I would recommend others to go!More

Had to wait a while to be seated as downstairs was full. However, we then get taken upstairs which is pretty empty, so why the wait! Then poor service continues. Slow and somewhat obnoxious man serves us, I even show him what we wanted. Sachertorte...and Apple strudel eventually arrived, then one drink. Ask for the other which I am told is not included in their sweet treat deal whine it clearly states it is. Get there. Nice setting, Sachertorte ok but not wow. Apple strudel just ok, overpriced with poor service. This was on wish list so would not go back. Lower your expectations and increase your overdraft!!More

Our long planned trip to Vienna included a visit to this cafe. We went there today, we have seen long queues to get in but we seemed to hit a sweet spot and were seated within minutes. However, it was another 20 minutes before we...could place an order and even then I had to ask. One of our group was especially looking forward to Apple strudel. We were told they were out! What a disappointment but it turns out they weren’t. Our food and drinks arrived in a reasonable amount of time after ordering but getting the bill was also another struggle. We asked more than once for it and then after such poor service she asked if we’d like to leave a tip. 4 cakes and coffee cost €80, there’s no way a tip was deserved. Showing up for work and doing your job, even badly, gets you a wage, a tip is for excellent service. So our trip to Sacher lasted almost 2 hours just for cake and coffee. I’ve done it now, but I won’t do it again.More

Let me start by stating that I love Sacher torte, and if offered, I would order it at any café, so I couldn't wait to try the Original Sacher torte at the Sacher café in Vienna. We arrived just in time when there was no...queue and were seated right away. We all eagerly anticipated the torte, but when it arrived, it was dry to the point that once you cut through the thick chocolate layer with a fork, the rest of the torte just fell apart into crumbs. The apricot layer was nowhere to be found as the biscuit of the torte absorbed it due to dryness. For a so-called landmark of Vienna, that is unacceptable! Hotel/Café Sacher should not afford to serve stale, dry Sacher torte to any customer at any cost. I must say I was really disappointed and that place won't see me again. Let me add this too: On top of it all it is really sad that their Quality Assurance Manager just copy pastes same response to all bad reviews justifying that they make cake based on original recipe (i don't doubt recipe - it is stale cake they serve!), and their price (price is not bad if the cake was fresh and moist as it is supposed to be). They should be more self aware that with dry cakes they hurt themselves and they should really look into this and improve.More

SacherTorte was on my wish list. But, perhaps that's where it should have stayed. On the positive - beautiful settings, friendly and helpful staff. The negatives. The SacherTorte was disappointingly dry. It really could only be eaten with the massive blob of cream it was...served with. Sadly, most of it remained on my plate. Very expensive too.More

Cafe Sacher Vienna wes recommended by so many friends... So, I and my friend decided to try this famous chocolate cake... We queued and it was around 5 groups of people in front of us... Then, there was someone asked who wanna seat outside...? Since...I didnt want to wait to long, I raised my hand and I could see him see me, but he ignored me... Again, he asked to all of the people who queued and again I raised my hand and he still like pretended not to see me... Maybe because Im not white people...?? Since he gave the seats to others.. Finally, it was my turn to be the first in the queue and another staff asked me whether I wanted to seat outside and I said no...!!! I wanna seat inside... He said that I need to wait a little bit longer, then I said: I wait..!! So, we were inside and order that famous Sacher Cake and apple struddle and ice coffee and it turned up not so special like what we expected. It is just normal chocolate cake and normal apple struddle.. We have better cake in our place.. The ice coffee also not so nice, it is like instant coffee from a sachet... We met the couple who queued behind us and they said the same... It is nice but but... not so special... Just one visit is more than enough...More

The cafe is beautiful but the service itself is truly awful. You wait in a long queue and get ignored by the staff. There is absolutely no organisation whatsoever: people are seated on a table for four when they are only two and a lot...of table for two are free. They take 15 minutes to clear a table. Once you go upstairs, you realise the whole floor is full of empty tables yet they still make you wait. Everything is done in order to keep the queue and attract people. The food is good but the whole waiting experience makes it overrated.More

While the interior is kind of authentic, the rest is absolutely not worth the ridiculous price tag. Family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers coming in to try the famous Sacher torte. It took 10 minutes to get any service (luckily we brought the cards...for UNO), ordered 2 Sacher torte, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream and 1 Caffe Latte. The cakes were dry and had a strange after taste of raisins (their website claims that this is the original recipe 😂), the scoop of ice cream was the smallest I have ever seen, and the latte was way under a common Starbucks level, in taste and size. EUR 28.80. So that is a NO on all shelves.More
