We selected this restaurant after reading all the great reviews - unfortunately - we had a very disappointing experience. Our takoyaki (entree) was frozen in the middle and our teriyaki chicken was bland, with rubbery skin left across most of the chicken. Perhaps we didn't choose their best dishes but we agreed it was the most disappointing Japanese meal we... More

I love this place. The only drawback is the size of the restaurant which can hold only a few customers at counter.

This Is an authentic Japanese food place (most of the menu is not sushi). Our Viennese friend highly recommended this tiny restaurant - and he was right, we ate a delicious lunch. Come early, when they open (noon time) or be prepared to wait for an open seat since the place only has 9 seats. It is worth while to... More

The food was really good. Definitely worth it and will come back again. Good that it is also able to take away. The restaurant is really small. Only 8 people can fit in to eat. Many people were waiting outside for a spot when we were there which also shows sign of good Japanese food.

Really sweet little place with a heart and great Japanese food to boot. It's authentic, yummy, casual and cash only! We had some unamaki, agedashi tofu and hijiki salads plus noodle and more. All were spot on! And we've been to Japan.

They need to follow the business hours they set themselves. I was there before the last ordering time before the end of lunch yet they will not let me order. Well, not going there again.

How we discovered this small restaurant during our stay in Vienna was because our hotel locating at the corner within a block. Although we passed the Kettenbrückengasse station everyday, not until the last few minutes before we left Vienna have we noticed Kuishimbo. In order to catch the direct train to the airport, I walked into Kuishimbo to get something... More

Oh Man, was I utterly surprised to find this small street-corner Japanese place. My wife and I ordered their beef noodle. 10 euro happiness is just incredible. I'd highly recommend this place to everyone who lives and visits Vienna.

Kuishimbo is one of my favorite restaurants in Vienna! The staff are so all so nice, and put up with me speaking broken Japanese! The restaurant reminds me so much of my visit to Japan: the style of the restaurant and their specialities (their noodle dishes are really really good!) The sashimi choices are limited to just tuna and salmon,... More

After having lived in Japan, I've come to the conclusion that it's not easy to find authentic Japanese cuisine in Vienna. You'll find an array of pseudo "Japanese" sushi restaurants that are run by non-Japanese, and in any case there is way more to Japanese cuisine than just sushi. Kuishimbo will please those who miss simple, authentic Japanese dishes. They... More

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
