Recommended to us by our guide. The experience was exactly what we expected from an authentic Viennese coffee house. The coffee was great and the Sacher Torte was divine. 9.10 euros for the cake and coffee per person.

There are many cafes in Wien. Hawelka is one of the most authentic one. There is no menu (u have to read it from the blackboard). Very delicious coffee comparing to other famous ones with only beautiful decoration.

The Cafe Hawelka is a perfect place to relax, sip a coffee, and people watch. It is a perfect location near Stephanplatz. No menu but they offer typical cafe items. I had a coffee with milk which was perfect. The best part is the people watching. Families, businessmen, shoppers, tourists and others walk by in a steady stream. Many people... More

We were taken to the cafe by a friend living in Vienna and this is were locals go. There is no written menu, the waiter will tell what they have. Our friend speaks the language so we had no problem. Soup, sandwiches and pastries were good. The service was Ok since they only have a couple of waiters but the... More

Nice place to enjoy your coffee in the very center of the city. The disadvantage is that there is no menu available so as to choose what would you like to order. So you have to give your order with no picture about the prices. The service tries to guide you but in a stressful way. When we asked for... More

Service was terrible.I don't like this cafe Hawelka. I was waiting for a long time.and I asked stuff about Menu and Order many times. but stuffs ignored me.....I couldn't order and drink...I was sad...I never go again.

Their pastries are not good at all. The apfelstrudel was dry and not tasty. I can make it better myself. The cafe itself and the interiour is completely worn down and extremely ugly. Service was OK. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!

It is a very busy cafe, or its just becasue it was saturday, it is typical vienna style, has really good coffee and the traditional pastries. It is very cozy and the service is very good there, it was our last destination before leaving Vienna and it was awesome. Doesnt accept cards only cash

Don't even go and try anything. No need to waste time and money here. The cakes are not delicious and the staff are very rude

This is a famous place in a very central location, just off the Hoffburg palace complex. We went there on Sunday morning and, quite surprisingly, got a place straight away. This place is not at all like the grand cafes. There is no menu ( not sure why they can't have one, surely it would be easier than to keep... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
