Go on and treat yourself! Famous restaurant serving typical Viennese food such as Tafelspitz - for which you're given an instruction leaflet on how to eat it! Lots of famous people have eaten here apparently.Oh yes also sells its own cookbooks.

This restaurant primarily serves variations of one signature dish, the "Tafelspitz" where you eat different parts of the ox in three courses, with traditional Austrian side dishes. The food was good and authentic, and the restaurant beautiful, but what really made it stand out was the high level of service. Our company brought one child (3 years) along, and we... More

You’ve seen the other reviews regarding needing a reservation. That is because this is a high demand restaurant with very good food and an interesting menu. I went with a group from work and a few of us ordered the Viennese asparagus soup - all agreed that it was some of the best soup we had ever eaten! While total... More

I'd been hearing that the famous Tafelspitz at Plachutta was delicious for years, and finally went to try it for myself recently. It was incredible! You can choose from various different cuts of meat (starting at 21€), but it's all served in the traditional way of putting the copper pot on the table to serve your various courses out of.... More

My sister and I stopped by at 6:45 pm on a Friday night ad all we could get was a semi-heated patio table. So, we sat down and dined with our winter coats on. The famous "table-spitz" didn't sound very appetizing to us. Sounds like boiled meat with root vegetables. We ordered stake tips on asparagus instead. The parsley potatoes... More

Came here for The famous Tafelspitz. Food was great BUT the waiter literally took the beef out of my brother-in-law's plate and put it back in the pot!!! Told us that HE was supposed to serve the beef. We were not to serve ourselves. We complied or else there was going to be a big scene and I didn't want... More

The very best place for Tafelspitz (sorry vegetarians). Suggestion: order one portion between two; there's a small surcharge and no additional meat, but you won't go hungry!

Get prepared that this place is overcrowded. Per se it means it is a popular place but popularity comes with a price: don't expect that the service will be with you. We had to wait for additional drinks for quite a time. Also, we were met by one man at the entrance, accompanied by another man, serviced by two different... More

I admit, the idea of boiled beef did not appeal to me at all! Despite our hotel's recommendation, I resisted ordering it until the waiter assured me it was fantastic - It was!! The broth, bread and marrow (again, I thought yuck but it was amazing!) potatoes and beef - I wish we discovered this before our last night!! My... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
