Very crowded place. We didn't bother to eat in the restaurant. The prices of takeaway sweets weren't exorbitant so it was worthwhile to go in to take a look.

Not a great variety but great cakes, pastries and more - including traditional Viennese sandwiches, etc. All "hand made" with an open kitchen that you can look and observe. A must in Vienna!

Great place, great food and sweets. A cafe with a beautiful atmosphere, where you can see how the people work in the kitchen.

I go to Demel every time I'm in Vienna, and I'm never disappointed. My favorite is the Vanilla Crème, along with one of their fabulous coffee drinks topped by Schlagobers. Can't be beat!

We went to this desert restaurant for lunch and to buy chocolates. Demel is very old and famous in Vienna. Our table was by large glass windows and we watched the pastry chefs decorate a wedding cake while we ate lunch. It was great!

I planned a trip to Vienna to eat the famous chocolate cake and lick the plate. Dream on. Everytime I came near the place, there was a snaking queue to get into the cafe. I went into the shop to get the cake to take away, the place was full of people which not much room to move about. Was... More

I have always thought i do not like sacher as i am not the biggest fan of jams in cake. As i had the opportunity, decided to try it here and it was excellent. The jam was there but just the perfect amount not to spoil the cake.

Went mid morning on a snowy April morning for cake and drink. The patisserie and shop area in the entrance is absolutely stunning. There is a viewing gallery so that you can see the preparation and baking of the cakes. We sat upstairs in a beautifully appointed room. There were a number of people there but it was easy to... We spent several delightful portions of afternoons in this cafe which brought forth some memories of time spent here in other years. It is crowded with sometimes larger groups of Asians pushing through. So, once you have found a seat, hang on to it, or come a bit earlier for Kaffee und Kuchen. My apple strudel was light and tasty... More

No visit to Vienna is complete without a visit to this magnificent throwback to Hapsburg Imperial elegance, tastefully accommodating the casual coffee/tea drinker or the seasoned cake adept. The commanding staircase view of the cuisine is spellbinding, seeing how attired chefs create their cakes, tartes, gateaux, or kuchen. Beware the tourist hordes, there are times of the day when the... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
