Service is great and you are enjoying coffee and cake or whatever you are having in front of the Hofburg. It is difficult to differentiate the food from the general city experience in Vienna, especially in the historic center. Demel is a historic cafe, with...some great desserts and outstanding service. We visited early and there was a line waiting for it to open. Most people were there to try the sachertorte. It was very good, and it had a distinctive caramel taste. I particularly enjoyed their homemade ice tea, which paired perfectly with the cake!More

Frankly, a bit disappointing given its status in every tourist guide. Extraordinary Viennese interior, less extraordinary Kuchen.

We ordered Kaiserschumarren , some Hauskaffee, Apfelstrudel and Wiener Eidksffee, This is supposed to be an old and established bakery in Vienna center. None of the items were satisfactory except hauskaffee which was just normal coffee. It is an over priced over valued establishment. I...had stomach problem half hour after eating in this establishment. I will mot come back here again.More

Avoid this place like the plague. The service is ok'ish, the food is way way overpriced (6,5 for a tea? seriously?). The Sachertorte is mediocre at best, an absolute disappointment. There is much nicer places in Vienna

Went there because of all the reviews. Was quite disappointed. I ordered the signature cake sachertorte and got standard chocolate cake, like kids birthday cake. Nothing special. Wouldn’t go especially for this anywhere. Coffee was fine . Very beautiful old fashioned place.

We decided to make our own test, which Sacher Cake is better. So we went to several places, including two famous places with "original" and three less prominent, which offered "Sachertorte" without this precious adjetive. Well, Demel Cafe is the winner for us. The chocolate...taste of the cake does not turn as a heavy feeling in the stomach later. And the aura of the place are the most "Viennese" as we felt it. We even bought two cakes as presents for the family but later found you that both had very short expire date (just 3 days), that was the only disapointment.More

After seeing Demel on a National Geographic tv show I wanted to go here. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but i had better Sachtertorte and Apfelstrudel in other places.

Demel is a synonym for Vienna and with rich history and taste snacks. Yes, Demel is expensive, but very tasty. When you think, that nothing cant surprise you anymore, then Demel can. Demel use real butter and only best ingredients for productions and when you...wanna try something really special, you have try his special Imperial pancake and spiced stewed plums for example. Yes, you can enjoy that tasty sweet dish also nowadays in corona pandemie. You can take your order to go and you will absolutely enjoy this location and the way, how the staff prepare this famous austrian dish - because is prepared live - infront of your eyes. You can take with you also austrian kind of donuts, cakes, pastries, bread and many other special cute and tasty stuff. When you need a special gift or, you wanna suprise your loved one, then take him/her to Demel and you will not forget this lovely time, when outside falling snow and you enjoy your steamy and tasty "Keiserschmarrn" - imperial pancake, or anything else. The location is perfect instagrammable and videos for TikTok or Youtube are must be. I promise, you will enjoy that lovely place. I am not sponsored for my good review. Best regards Monika WurmMore

The place is very typical, old fashion, traditional. The kitchen is visible inside thru glasses and it is amazing to see it while they prepare the desserts, cakes ..... The dessert was delicious

Very long queue and long waiting time. This place is very well-known since they where a preferred supplier of the royal family (Sisi) back in the days. And that caught our attention too. We were not the only one. Average pastries and very cold inside....Narrow space around tables. Keep your jackets on.More

I didn't see any items marked as gluten-free although their menu and shop has an extensive selection. Maybe they do cater for people with coeliac disease and it is probably mentioned on their website.
