This Coffee house lives up to the hype. Always busy due to it's popularity, my gf and I found a couple spots at the bar which was great. The coffee and cakes were delicious and it is a beautifully decorated and very quaint little spot for a quick stop. Would recommend stopping by if in Vienna.

Upon arrival, there is limited signage to advise you to move toward the back of the cafe to be seated. The signage at the bottom of the staircase (at the rear of the cafe) is confusing as it says to wait for a waiter (on a sign [sounds simple]), but, there is a second sign on the staircase itself which... Atmospheric cafe in the centre of Vienna. You can watch the patisserie chefs at work whilst waiting for a table. Lots of delicious cakes on offer including the Original sachertorte.

Lovely visit. We had lunch followed by cakes, all delicious. Was a beautiful building to also enjoy. May be a little touristy but still authentic and staff were wonderful. Was one of the highlights of our trip, would definitely return.

It is worth eating here once despite the tourist chaos! Make a reservation at least one day in advance and you will avoid the long line to get seated. Try the soups, Wienerschnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn.

If you want to experience what imperial Austria was like than this is the place to visit. The selection of cakes and tarts is impressive, as is the open kitchen where you can admire the pastry chefs diligently at work producing their delicious creations. Be ready for a large crowd, however, as this café-restaurant is always packed. After a few... More

Upon arriving in Vienna, Demel was a place that our guide told us was an absolute must. It's a beautiful, legendary cafe with really great sweets. My friends and I had a wonderful time here! I highly recommend the Mozart cake!

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime in January so only had to queue for a short time. Excellent choice of cakes. Thought it had a nice atmosphere and was pleased to have visited, would return if in Vienna again!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
