Cafe Central was on our list of historic Vienna food sites, so when we happened by the place unexpectedly on Sunday evening, and the line was short, we decided we should not miss this opportunity to see where Vienna intellectuals such as Sigmund Freud, architect...Adolf Loos, Leon Trotsky, Tito and Stalin convened in the late 1800s. Opened in 1876, the Cafe had closed after WWII. When the building was renovated in the 1970s, the Central Cafe was reopened and had a full renovation in the 1980s. It is indeed a lovely interior! We were there only for coffee and dessert. Take a few minutes to peruse all the awesome dessert options! We chose to share a slice of Peanuts & Caramel cheesecake. And we enjoyed it...and savored it... while listening to the piano player. As the last site we visited during our four days in Vienna, we certainly left on a high note!More

Beautiful decor, excellent waiter. Food was just so so, and portions were small for lunch. We enjoyed ourselves though. It’s one of those Viennese cafes you have to see, but probably wouldn’t go back. Our waiter is what made it special

Frankly, I was a bit disappointed with this coffee house. Like all of the well-known ones in Vienna, it's completely jammed with tourists both inside and in a line outside. It is beautiful, of course but has the feel of being in a place like...Disneyland filled with American and Japanese folks. They're all nice, of course, but you have to fantasize yourself as being in Vienna instead of the Cheesecake Factory. Service is extremely efficient. There is nothing about the older, highly romanticized tales of this place left. The cake is good. We had a chocolate nut cake called Nusskuss. The Kaisershwarnn, a Viennese specialty vaguely like bread pudding, was disappointing. It was clearly not just made, as it should be; the menu says it takes 20 minutes but mine arrived barely warm in much less time. Go to Demel's and watch someone make it and you'll immediately see how it should be done. Warning: if you're butter-phobic don't look!More

When we arrived there was a line, but it moved pretty fast. We loved everything about this place, except that you have to go to the front to look at their display of desserts and give them the number or name of what you want....A bit annoying when several people are up there doing the same, in addition to the ones taking selfies with the mannequin. We loved the desserts and the drinks. Our server was an older gentleman from Prague with a great attitude and excellent service. We will definitely return!!More

The ambiance at Central Cafe was delightful. The breakfast was delicious. We had Kaiserschmarrn, Sachertorte and Milchrahmstrudel mit Vanillesauce and they were absolutely mouth-watering. PS: there is usually a queue to get inside.

HR Gerard is the best server we’ve had all holiday. Amazing service. Upon arriving the line was quite long - this was a sign that this place would be amazing, if everyone is lining up. The design and decor of the place is fabulous. The...seats and tables remind me of an old school restaurant, it was built from 1876 after all. This would give them enough time to cook and perfect their food - which they did. I had the salmon and eggs with potato soup and it was a pleasure to my taste buds. HR Gerhard is an amazing server. You can tell he is passionate about his job. He cleans with efficiency and he is very communicative. When we didn’t have enough time to look at the menu he told us he would take a payment and come back to us. Most restaurants always ask how the food is without even taking a bite. He had asked me until after I have had the soup to ask me if the food was good and I said “it was amazing”. Me and my friends are travelling from Bratislava and this is the first place we went to. Great choice from my friend Brian . Would definitely recommend!More

We did wait 45 minutes in line, but it was so worth the wait. The amaretto hot chocolate was exceptional, and our waiter was incredibly friendly. Definitely a must-visit in Vienna!

My recent visit to Cafe Central was a mixed experience. Upon arrival, I was greeted by an older gentleman at the entrance who was quite mean. His demeanor made me feel unwelcome, which significantly impacted my entire visit. I noticed that he was nice to...other guests, so I'm not sure why he was unwelcoming to me. This unfortunate start made me feel rushed, as if he didn't want me there, and this negatively affected my time at the cafe. However, once inside, Kezia made a notable difference in my experience. She was polite and welcoming, doing her best to ensure I felt comfortable. Her warm service was a stark contrast to my initial encounter and was much appreciated. The food at Cafe Central was also very good, which added a positive note to my visit. The dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, making for a satisfying meal. The live piano was wonderful too. Interestingly, it was the tourists sitting beside me who made me feel more welcome and inviting. Their friendly demeanor and pleasant conversation were highlights of my visit, compensating for the less-than-ideal reception at the door. Overall, while Kezia's service, the delicious food, and the friendly tourists were bright spots, the unwelcoming attitude from the older gentleman at the entrance significantly detracted from my experience at Cafe Central.More

We visited this place in the evening on Sunday the 19th of May 2024 and a visit here is worth it as it has a history as it was established in 1876 ! The long ques outside this historical restaurant are a testimony to this...fact of how renowned it is ! Once you enter then you are amazed by its ambience ! You have a wide range to choose from whether it’s cakes, pastries, coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, juices and a plenty of range to choose from ! Their service is courteous and the dishes are delicious. A visit here is a must if one is Vienna in Austria 🇦🇹 Dr. Javed RasheedMore

We visited this cafe in Vienna on a quest to explore the city's top spots. It's popular, so expect long queues unless you make a reservation. The cakes are exceptional, and the schnitzel is just as impressive. I highly recommend checking it out if you're...in Vienna.More
