Our first visit to Cafe Central was mid-afternoon for cake and something hot to drink. The queue outside was a little daunting but it moved quickly and as so efficiently managed by the staff and it was definitely worth the wait! The atmosphere and interior of the building was beautiful and the staff super helpful and polite and the cakes... More

Beautiful cakes and lovely surroundings with gentle piano music in the background. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A lovely way to spend an hour or two after sightseeing.

We had a nice dinner of the beef goulash, the chicken breast breaded, cold beers, and dessert. The dessert was pear cheesecake and a stacked dessert with pumpkin and raspberries. Both were good the cheesecake as not NY style but light with more of an emphasis on cake than cream cheese. Our waiter Enrico was excellent, pleasant and his wife... More

Human hair in the strudel, say no more!!! Bad experience, you wait 30 minutes for a table to order something and then this is what you get.

Traditional Viennese cafe centrally located. The inside of the building itself is beautiful. Service is good. The food options are varied, and reasonably priced as well as the lovely selection of cakes. We arrived on a Saturday around midday and there was a small queue out the door but it soon moved through. Highly recommended a must see when visiting... More

As far as old school cafe houses go, this one is by far the most popular and there will be a Q unless you are very lucky. The inside is very cheesy traditional and the service is clearly catered for getting tourists in and out as quickly as possible which is fair enough. They have a pastry / cake counter... More

This cafe was too famous, and most of people there were tourists. The internal environment was classic and cozy, but the coffee was nothing special but over-priced. We can find other place in Vienna with better food/beverage easily and more reasonable prices.

After seeing the concert in Hofburg Kappelle, we decided to have brunch at Café Central and it was just perfect ! We did not have any reservation and had to wait for 15 minutes in the qeue but that was fine.

Worth queing at the door - the restaurant is a must for a good taste of traditional cuisine. It doesn't feel crowded though it accomodates a great number of visitors. The original interiors are well maintained, the staff are efficient. A piece of advise - though you can eat hot food and salads, do try some of their mouth-eatering desserts... More

Description
This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
