First the good news: food and drinks were fine (clear beef broth with liver dumplings, gulash soup, apple strudel, interesting beer). And now, the very bad news: this establishment thrives on a huge incredibly well-attended SMOKING SECTION, barely separated from what in this day and age should be normal and natural: a non-smoking section! Waiters and people come and go... More

We found this café near our hotel, although it has also been recommended. We only stopped in for coffee and dessert, so I don't know about the main meals (but the menu looked good and it was obviously popular). Prices were reasonable, but there is a lot of competition serving similar food. The coffee was good and the service was... More

This restaurant was recommended and it was really good. The food was tasty although the serves are large. The consommé was utterly delicious as was the dish of boiled meat and veggies. Doesn't sound great but goodness me, it was fresh, clean and extremely tasty! The snow peas were crisp and the broth it was cooked in must have made... More

Just love this place, relaxed, good classical Austrian cousin, great for a quick bite and a great alternative to other places in Vienna

A small café down town Vienna with character. Serving typical Viennese specialties, well above average, but most importantly different. Not the usual Austrian décor, more relaxed. Good service, good beers, wide bar selection, reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit this season for its goose plates.

My girl friend and I dined here the first night we were in Vienna because our hotel was in the vicinity. This cafe appears to be a place for locals, which normally would be a good thing. However, our waiter was actually a bit rude. The food was good, but it was a bit on the expensive side. I had... More

+ (food): changing lunch menu always cooked spot on - gulasch for a snack with a small beer perfect - love the melange with Strudel + (service): swift service also in english altough the jokes are funnier in german / waiter work at the cafe for many years and that lifts the whole experience +(ambience): very reduced and I like... For our last night in Vienna we wanted simple local food and Cafe Englander fitted the bill. This restaurant/bar was busy and we needed to wait for a table-surely a good sign, as was the fact it was obviously locals and regulars rather than tourists. Nothing flash or fancy but we sat outside enjoying the atmosphere and our breaded veal.... More

Not many people were sitting outside as we came so we thought we'll give it a try. we waiting at least 20min for a waiter to bring us the menu, another 10 to take our order. their menu is quite big and their... Was recommended by the head receptionist at our hotel, he said he usually ate at his mothers but this was the next best place ! Used mainly by locals it's a bit out of the way but well worth finding. Had the Wiener Schnitzel on both occasions we ate there and was not disappointed. Tad pricey but worth it. When... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
