This is where Viennese workers go for a quick meal on their way home from work or shopping. It's not a place to linger over your meal; if you want to spend the evening over your dinner, look elsewhere. But if you want honest-to-goodness home cooking Viennese style served without frills, this is the place. Don't be put off by... More

because all the locals know this place and travel forums all praise it, it is impossible to get in even at lunchtime. I visited in february and tried several times at 12 noon, 11.55 etc and was still turned away. Waiting staff not helpful and you have to just push around the several rooms looking for a table that is... More

Visited on first evening in the city after looking around for a place to eat. Really good service and lovely food. We both really enjoyed schnitzel and pork with sauerkraut. Beer and wine were nice too and very reasonably priced.

The restaurant is very informal and warm. The soup of the day is very good, as usual in this city, as well as goulash and bratwürst. The service is quick and precise, and the price adequate. We spent 20€ each for soup, a main dish and a small dessert, bier and a taste of Grüner Veltliner. The espresso is a... More

I read some reviews in here and there before we decided to eat in this small restaurant -but popular by Viennese. To find this restaurant when you reach Stephanplatz or Domkirche St. Stephan, go to Graben and on the left side you will see H&M store, and this restaurant is only on the second alley ( gasse, in German )... It's a busy place in the centre of the city, not that you would know from the outside. The staff are very friendly and helpful speaking in many different languages. Great place to try some local dishes and not break the bank e.g. the boiled beef and the schnitzel - large portions meant I was unable to try the strudel... More

If you are looking for somewhere with no frills in the centre of Vienna for hearty food (and lots of it) and good beer then this is the place. I had the schnitzel and the goulash (two separate nights) and they were both great. Service was relaxed and friendly and we were made very welcome. Plenty of seating but never... More

Traditional austrian dishes. Not to cosy but worth a visit if you want to eat good quality food for reasonable prices. Not dining but eating.

Very unassuming restaurant from the outside. Busy and mainly local people dining there. Limited menu. The food is cooked to order. The restaurant is just off the main square. Hidden gem. Definitely recommend. Good food at a reasonable price .

In downtown of Vienna you will find this authentic place. Please take the Schnitzel - it´s the BEST! Since I am a Fan of Salad, the salad you get with the Schnitzel is amazing. The dressing is just marvelous.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
