Nice 'Avant Garde' restaurant in a narrow cobbled lane not far from the centre of Vienna in what seems to be an area of various shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. You can eat outside on warm evenings. Good Viennese menu and we enjoyed a classic Veiner Schnitzel followed by a cake selection.

stopped off for lunch and was not disappointed. the food was very good as was the service. We were also amazed at the reasonable price whci gave great value. The only reason we couldnt give it an "excellent" rating was the fact that the restaurant ws almost empty and so the atmosphere\ambiance was not great. I would imagine on a... More

I am not giving this restaurant a terrible review as I was unable to eat there - but this is the only way that I was able to post these comments! After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to give this restaurant a go as it was so close to our hotel. Unfortunately it was closed and looked... More

This place is fantastic. Great staff, great ambiance. Serves smaller dishes of food so if you are not looking for a large meal it is perfect.

We chose this little restaurant (one of many in Spittelberg neighborhood) because it had a few french items on the menu and we needed a bit of a break from Austrian cuisine. I ordered Salad Nicoise - should be pretty standard. It was so loaded with garlic I couldn't eat it. My husband had quiche. It was extremely salty. We... More

There are several restaurants in this charming lane and the one I would recommend here is Spittelberg Heuriger which has tables each side of the pedestrian walkway. It caters for the tourists but the food is exceptionally good. We tried both soups Onion and Tomato which were excellent. Main courses of lamb and couscous and roast chicken risotto were absolutely... More

Forrtunately our hotel (K&K Maria Theresia) was just an alleyway away from this delightful area of restaurants and preserved 18/19th century buildings just south west of the Ringstrasse. Well worth a visit as a contrast from the grandeur of the central historic district.

A true area to stroll and gawk! Great little cafes and wonderful buildings fill the area - not to everyone's taste, but the idea of transporting one's self back in time is easy to do in these surroundings.

Staying in Neubau

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s art district, Neubau buzzes with galleries, arts and crafts, trendy restaurants, avant-garde shops, and cafés. Neubau’s Spittelberg quarter with cobblestoned Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse make for a perfect stroll alongside Biedermeier houses and art shops. Don’t miss the historic courtyard at Amerlinghaus with its typical Pawlatschen galleries, a perfect hangout on a warm summer evening. Museumsquartier is Neubau’s undisputed highlight: the former Imperial stables house various top museums of 19th to 21st century art. If you love interiors, head for the Imperial Furniture museum (Hofmobiliendepot), one of the world’s largest furniture collections. Find your favorites among a dazzling array of Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau and Modernist chairs, sofas, cupboards, coat hangers, foot stools and wash basins. No weekend visit would be complete without stopping by a local café on a weekend morning for brunch.
