Ambience, history, friendly service & good food. Popular with tourists and locals... reservation is highly recommended. Novembre is goose season and a refreshing option to the pork knuckles.

Found this by accident as not well signposted & in a Cellar Very popular for locals, students, parties - and tourists in the know. Comfy feeling, good service, 'typical' food well presented, filling and tasty. A lovely evening Not suitable for mobility impaired

This lovely cellar restaurant is fairly easy to find, located as it is on Schottengasse a short walk from Schottentor U-Bahn station. The menu is varied but contains excellent Austrian specialities. This is a very reasonably priced restaurant given the location and ambience. The schnitzel...More

The place is awkwardly brightly lit, and a tad chilly in november. The waiter convinced us to get a side salad for our Wiener Schnitzels, but we we’re almost done eating when it finally showed up, so I told him it was way too late...More

The Melker Stiftskeller is part of the Melkerhof in Vienna's Schottengasse 3 in the first district. A certificate from 1629 proves that there was a wine-cellar connected with the Melkerhof already at that time. In addition it confirms the right of the Abbey of Melk to store and sell wine from the abbey's wineyards. The Melker Stiftskellers fine cuisine developed out of this wine-cellar. Today we concentrate on traditional and fresh food, our speciality of the house, the roasted pork knuckle, is served for almost 400 years now. The old cellar vault offers seating for 300 persons and therefor is perfect for larger groups, private partys and buisness events.
