Was recommended this by our hotel and it was good. A bit of a bierkeller atmosphere, comfortable and cosy, and although very busy the waitress managed to seat us without too much delay and we enjoyed local beer whilst waiting! The food was good, not gourmet just comfort food and beer, just what we needed after a long day sighseeing!

We are on holiday with our 6 month old baby. We went 5.30 pm on a weekday (I can imagine it gets full during evenings and weekends). The traditional Austrian food was very nice. Especially the desert (Kaiserschmarn). The prices are reasonable - we paid 53 Euros for 2 mains, 1 shared desert and 4 drinks. The service was very... More

I went here because I thought it was a place for locals, especially as it is a bit far from the center of town. Instead I found mostly tourists and a fairly average menu selection. The prices are not high, but then you get what you pay for.

We discovered the Alter Fuchs on our first night, got the last available table and loved it so much we went there every night of our stay. The majority of the customers were obviously local, which is always a good sign, but menus were also in English. The food was traditional Austrian cooking with one or two seasonal specials. The... The one thing about this restaurant that's truly amazing is the staff. They hustle like crazy, getting food out and taking care of their customers. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars was because my Stelze was overcooked and because my Kloß was also not the best. The beer was excellent, service excellent, and the food good,... More

We went in here on our last night. A lot of places are shut on a Sunday but this was open. Dropping down the stairs it opens into a couple of rooms with tables and some high seating. We were not sure about the high tables and seats but actually they were ok. We had the Wiener Schnitzel and it... More

Visiting Salzburg on business, loads of options where to eat and I wanted to find a friendly local bar that serves food, so chose here. After ordering a large beer went for a beef bouillon starter with a meat strudel, they came with the largest pretzels I've ever had. Main course was a carnivore delight - wiener schnitzel with pork... More

My family and I ate at Alter Fuchs as it was very close to our hotel. We sat in the outside patio area. The staff appeared very busy but were friendly and attentive. We all enjoyed our meal and was one of the more enjoyable dinners during our trip through Germany and Austria. I would definitely eat here again.

We had wanted to eat here as we heard it had great Austrian food. We had to wait nearly half an hour to be seated though and we nearly left. Luckily we stuck it out and were very happy with the amazing schnitzel we had. The staff were great and the beer was good.
