Visited this small cozy restaurant twice during our stay in Malta. You need to book to get a table even though we got a table first time not booking. Authentic nice place with descent food. Worth a visit

We booked our visit to this very popular restaurant in Sliema on the wednesday for a meal at 7pm the next day. During our meal there were a constant flow of diners who were turned away because they hadn’t booked. If you want to experience...one of the best Maltese restaurants, make the effort and pre-book. So what is all the fuss about? An attentive team in this small family run restaurant will deliver good quality Maltese food at a reasonable price. We are staying in a 5 star hotel just up the road from Il Merril and there is no comparison in the quality of the food. Il Merril wins hands down. The decor is interesting and the music certainly appealed to our taste, as of course did the food, which was served hot, plentiful and tasty. If I had a criticism, we were glad to escape to the slightly cooler air outside. The potential diners who were turned away provided the welcome relief of the door being opened. The choice of food isn’t overwhelming but there is enough variety to satisfy most, unless you are vegan that is, but that is Maltese food, I certainly enjoyed my bunny rabbit stew, but don’t tell my grandchildren. Book ahead and experience this place for yourself!More

We passed this restaurant a few times and after reviewing the menu decided to book. The restaurant is small but charming with a homely feel. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. The menu is small but has everything you need for a delicious...meal of traditional food served rustically. Delicious wine and food all in all but the portions are huge if that can be a issue and the side vegetables could be better cooked. A wonderful family run restaurant in the great location is well worth a visit.More

Very disappointed with the food in this restaurant. swordfish tasteless, mixed grill fatty ribs and undercooked steak. Tables crammed in giving very little room to eat. Plates cleared before main meals arrived as no room on the tables. Would not recommend and would not visit...in the future.More

Very disappointing, the starter of mixed Maltese food was very tasty and filling but the main course was brought immediately the starter plates had been removed ,I would have expected a small break. My main course of octopus and squid casserole was ok ,but very...heavy on tomatoes and my husbands beef dish had no flavour except tomatoes!! Had the tables not been so close to one another I would have complained, but it was just easier to pay and leave.More

We came across this quirky looking traditional Maltese Restaurant and booked a table for the following evening as was quite small and got booked up quickly. The decor in the Restaurant was very interesting as a lot of old memorabilia on the walls. A small...Menu and some dishes unavailable. I settled on the rack of ribs, and my friend had the Swordfish which were both served with Fresh vegetables. The Ribs were massive but I was a bit disappointed with the Barbecue Sauce they were covered in as a bit bland. The Swordfish was served with a tomato vegetable sauce which was very nice but have had better. Lovely atmosphere and attentive waiting staff busy little restaurant.More

Nice little location. Food is good and abundant, but as I had to go after 9.00 pm some of the favorites dishes were finished. This the reason for giving just four stars. Prices in the average, ca. 35 €/ea for starter, main course and dessert.

Firstly, it is imperative that you book a table at this restaurant to avoid disappointment. On arrival, we were shown to our table by an attentive and friendly waitress. She gave us the food and wine menus and told us about the "specials". My wife...and I both chose the white fish dish, which was extremely tasty. We had a bottle of Maltese white wine to accompany the dish, which complimented it well. This was followed by traditional Maltese desserts. The atmosphere was amazing in this small and full restaurant. Thanks to other TripAdvisor reviewers for the recommendations.More

I discovered this delightful, cosy, family-run restaurant through Google, when searching for something nearby to us and serving traditional Maltese food. The restaurant is pretty small, but this makes a lively atmosphere. The menu is quite varied and the dishes look pretty traditional. The food...was excellent. I had a rabbit starter and main, rabbit being such a traditional dish on Malta. The rabbit liver and kidneys was simple, but incredibly tasty. The rabbit stew equally tasty. Really pleased with my choices. I also include a photo of my friend's rack of BBQ ribs as it was so impressive! - Rabbit Liver: traditionally sautéed in wine and garlic - Rabbit Stew: Rabbit slow cooked in tomato sauce, red wine, homemade rabbit stock, vegetables and herbs, served with Maltese bread - Hickory Bbq Ribs: Spareribs slow cooked for four hours and then grilled in smokey, hickory Bbq sauce, and served with potatoes and seasonal vegetables.More
