A lovely spot inside Mdina’s city walls. We sat in the main dining room for dinner and were very impressed with the setting and service. We had rabbit and fillet of beef, both of which were absolutely superb and very reasonable. Portion sizes were great - you would be hard pressed to get a comparable piece of beef for the same price at a British butcher let alone a restaurant. Mains, a bottle of wine and coffee came to £100 - superb value.

Nice place, food was good, but service was disappointing.
Good location inside the city walls, lovely setting and blissfully cool with its arched ceilings and rustic look. White table cloths give a sense of elegance.
Reception was as cold as the air conditioning and we where challenged if we wanted to eat inside or outside in a rather rude way.
We then had to wait a good 10-15 minutes to get a menu, and the same time again to place a drink order (which we had to ask for again).
When the food arrived about an hour later it was very tasty.
Some staff were in traininf, which is not a problem as such, but they had very poor oversight.
To pay, we had to go up some stairs to the garden, and then come back down again to go outside. Toilets were upstairs too, this place is not accessible if you have reduced mobility.
So to sum up, nice ambience, nice food, staff unfriendly and uncooperative. Expensive, but there are not many options inside the city walls.

Four course meal with a Malta spin of flavors. As I entered the tastefully decorated lower chamber you get a sense you are in a room that still has a medieval feel. The staff were friendly and I was seated in an alcove with a view of the foyer. I saw the ravioli on another table and knew I wanted to try it and saw that the four course meal included it. I enjoyed the food each had a unique flavor and I opted for fish instead of rabbit as the raviolis were goat. The first dish was a tasty treat that was a delicate flavor and very spot on with the flavors. Next the famous ravioli that were with the best sauce I have enjoyed. The fish was perfectly cooked and served with potatoes and veggies that enhanced the fish flavors. Last was the date dessert that was also very perfectly combined and a mild delicate ending to fantastic meal.

Such a lovely setting in an amazing old property. But sadly food , service and professional let it down.
The €38 steak was nice but just was so so salty. The duck tortellini was such thick pasta and only got 6 rounds for €18 it was under mains but more like a starter size. We were the only ones in there and after waiting 30 minutes of not being check on managed to get waiters attention to ask for dessert menu. Just felt like he didn’t want to be there.

Very nice place, both inside and outside, but the positives unfortunately end here. We waited a long time to eat (more than an hour) despite the place was not particularly full, the service was fragmented and incomplete (at the end of the meal we had never received napkins, the wine arrived and we did not have glasses). After the endless wait, unfortunately, the dishes did not live up to expectations: not very tasty and always lacked that quid you expect from a restaurant that looks a certain way. They apologized for the wait by offering us a pistachio dessert, very good.
Definitely more suitable for drinking something and tasting a dessert rather than for lunch.

The place is rather Atypical and very pleasant.
I ordered the carrot soup of the day, very sweet and fragrant.
For the main course, a chicken supreme with a very hearty accompaniment of sautéed vegetables and potatoes.
A beautiful, tasty and consistent dish.
I took the liberty of not giving 5 stars, the bread and butter were abominable.
You urgently need to change supplier.
These elements are also part of a successful meal.

We did the whole tour of Mdina and can safely say that this was the best restaurant in town, serving excellent food with service that goes above and beyond. We were extremely lucky to have Frank serving us. His attention to detail was very much appreciated. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

What a pleasure! A lovely welcome awaits you in the Bacchus restaurant. Frank looked after us and is a great host who takes care to make sure you and everyone else have what they need. The venison was perfect and my husband had the Irish beef fillet, which he thoroughly enjoyed too. Lovely ambience and excellent service too.

Found by chance, this restaurant located at the bottom of a dead end filled us from beginning to end.
The property is very well maintained. Everything is clean including the toilet.
It is the entrance class (magnificent vaulted rooms) to the place where meals are taken.
We were outside, on the garden side, sheltered from umbrellas and comfortably installed in the armchairs.
Customaries of the “Relais et Châteaux” label, we felt like we were in such an establishment.
A fish soup lover, I tried one of Malta’s finest specialties: THE ALJOTTA. It is a fish soup with tomato, raised with garlic, accompanied by cockles, shrimp and mussels. I had already tried the dish in a N°1 Maltese restaurant. The Bacchus was rated 5 out of 5 stars.
We have continued to be satisfied by:
Raviolis 'Gbejna', Cherry, Pecorino, Espuma De Tomato
Beef fillet, chickpeas, tandoori yogurt, cucumber
The uniformed staff are smiling and very professional. The tip lived up to my satisfaction.

Pleasant surprise- we came across this restaurant shortly after entering MDina’s gates. We quickly got a reservation online. Our table was not ready when we showed up but we were greeted quickly, seated in a lovely front area, and were able to order drinks and view the menu options. Our server was quite the character and very charming! The food was exceptional! Do not except a quick dining experience but quality!

A very good lunch away from the crowds. Very refined and discreet service. The sea bream was cooked perfectly, and the rabbit was divine. Finally, the dessert menu is worthy of interest. The pistachio dessert is a treat. The setting is authentic. A great address.

Although close to the main entrance to Mdina, and well signposted, Bacchus was surprisingly quiet. We were led through a series of rooms, including a vast function suite, to the garden, which was a wonderful space. Not wanting to overdo it at lunchtime, we just had pasta, attracted to the unusual combinations - orecchiette with clams, celeriac, basil and pomegranate, and strigoli with rabbit ragu, guanciale, hazelnuts and truffles. Both were absolutely exquisite, with the flavours perfectly balanced. I finished off with a caffe corretto, expecting a simple espresso with a glug of grappa, and instead getting something more akin to an Irish coffee. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the maitre d' came over to make sure everything was to our liking, which was appreciated.

Stunning venue. However our welcome by the maitre d was a bit surly 😠. Thereafter the young waiting staff were friendly. Two of us ordered tonic and got flat pretty tasteless drink already poured in a glass which the waiter advised when questioned, came from a plastic bottle. We saw bottles in the bar - presumably reserved for gin drinkers. The cost of these were deducted. The hits on the food front were the focaccia and fish main. The sardine starter seemed to use tinned sardines perhaps? The duck main, whilst being tasty and cooked as requested, was very cool which detracted from our enjoyment. The steak likewise.

On Monday evening, many restaurants closed for duty, we chose one of the few available near us and were pleasantly satisfied with the welcome, menu, climate and view. Mdina in the evening is truly La Silente without the confusion of the day and the coordinated menu and wine have fully satisfied! Franco then entertained us with stories of Maltese life with discretion and kindness. The final bill adjusted.
