We went for a mid-week celebratory family dinner. The dining room is dark and small, and the atmosphere was strained as everyone spoke in hushed tones. The food was a good average although the portions were small. But the service was painfully slow, and although...More

The building is a Jacobean manor house in a beautiful part of Devon: at least that is what it appears to be, although, in fact, it is Victorian built by Baring-Gould without an architect. Nevertheless it is a beautiful place surrounded by fine gardens where...More

Lewtrenchard is a brilliant place to stay. Great staff, great food and perfect location. Having said that you should know a few things. Firstly to get to the manor house you really need your own transport. We had a rent-a-car and so no issues -...More

Dear Chris Thank you very much for your interesting and informative review. You must have stayed with us on a couple of quieter nights as more often than not there is a lot of chatter in the dining room!!! We do have boots here in...More

My friends and I were walking by and not staying here but popped in out of curiosity. A very nice lady took the time to give us a free tour of this gorgeous Jacobean mansion and even showed us one of the rooms complete with...More

The food was to die for. Delicious and so beautifully presented. The service was just right and done so in a friendly and professional way. The complimentary tasters were a surprise and gorgeous. Can't wait to go there again!

A gift from our son and daughter-in-law. Stately manor from the 1600's with elegant gardens, historic small church. Wonderful high tea with scones, preserves, clotted cream, three types of sandwich, four types of sweet dessert, all on the three tiered tray, with a pot of...More

The venue was a delight for the eyes when we arrived, a lovely old building in nicely set-out gardens. We were offered a choice of a table in the restaurant or in the lounge. Although the dining room was beautifully set, we preferred the more...More

Grey, threatening sky, mild March Sunday afternoon on the day afternoon England had failed woefully to retain the grand slam in Dublin. We came with friends for the full cream tea at £19.50 a head. Unspoilt countryside, pleasant approach and easy parking, too early for...More

Lovely lunch on their charity lunch special deal. Fine dining with friendly service. Food was beautifully presented and my vegetarian options were not a disappointment - as much, if not more care, went into the preparation of my dishes as went into the meat/fish options....More

We have been invited by friends to have a Devonshire Cream Tea but have been told that there is a strict dress code. We are neither formal nor smart folk. Can anyone help? Do you have to wear a suit or tie? Would women get away with trousers? I am afraid we are clean jeans and sweater types, especially at the weekends.

I have visited a few times now and normally dress "smart casual". I think you will be welcome whatever you wear (within reason! )

Description
A beautiful Jacobean manor house deep in the Devon countryside, Lewtrenchard Manor offers luxury dining in a sublime setting. Dating back to the 1600s, the Manor has an interesting and varied history, a fact that can be seen in every nook and cranny throughout the hotel and dining rooms. One of the finest restaurants in the county, the Lewtrenchard Manor restaurant is overseen by Chef Matthew Peryer who learned his trade in high quality Michelin stared establishments. The menus make the most of the best of Devonshire produce while employing the methods and flavour combinations of chic modern European cuisine, earning the restaurant its reputation. Lively and relaxed, Lewtrenchard Manor is a superb place in which to indulge in the very best food and, indeed, delightful wines from the extensive cellar of old and new world labels.
