There are plenty of places to eat here and we got lucky. Walked in rather than using recommendations and found a real gem. Food was beautiful, service excellent and pricing reasonable for the area.

Check the opening hours. We just missed lunch service, but were offered Icelandic Tapas, which was delicious and good value for money. Nice place to grab some lunch if you are in Iceland looking for fish.

I traveled all the way to this place by bus, 15 walk. Restaurant was not near main bus station but I didnt mind. Fresh fish and tasty. I just happen to notice at the time, I was the only tourist. I was charged 2900 approximately when others were being charged 2300 for the buffet. I know because I stood around waiting by the case where they present the hot plates. As I was waiting for the last fish dish to come out of kitchen , others were ordering their buffet plate. And also the girl cashier told the buffet price is fixed for all. I even did not take the side items which came with the fish. I had only couscous. I just wanted to enjoy fresh fish.

Fylgifiskar is also in Kopavogur. Started as a premium fish shops with fresh fish and fish dishes plus two exceptional types of fish soup. If you take the soup a way it is maintained cold and you add 3-4 types of fresh fish to it when at home. Very in to have a lunch there as well.

There are many good fish stores in Reykjavik, but I find Fylgifiskar to be by far the best. Their fish is very fresh, the flavors are amazing, and every day there are some interesting new dishes to try. They also have very nice and friendly staff in both of their locations. I often stop by at Fylgifiskar to get some ready-made dish - I pop it in the oven, and 10 minutes later, an amazing feast is ready! I am especially partial to their arctic char dishes and salmon pancakes - but to be fair, everything I have tried (including the side dishes, such as the amazing barley salad, and sauces) has been top notch.

I often shop at this great fishmonger's! For travelers I can heartily recommend their ready-to-cook fish fish courses (pop it in an oven or microwave). But during lunch (11-14) this is also a restaurant. Great food. A personal favourite!

We stayed at a hotel nearby and went there twice during our trip in Iceland. The fish soup is truly amazing and the fish is unbelievably fresh coupled with the incredible customer service of Emil Solvi Alfreosson. The atmosphere is very neat and clean. It was one of the best and healthiest lunch we've ever had. We will definitely recommend it to anyone who is in Reykjavik.

Fylgifiskar is a large fish market that prepares fresh fish and soup customers can eat at counters, tables and chairs in front and back. Prices are lower than at a restaurant with servers. The market prepares three fish entrees daily, and a plate includes two of them, plus roasted potatoes and salad. Bread, coffee and a great crab spread are free (about $23 for food and extras). One of the fish selections I enjoyed was Ling with Moroccan Spices. On our second visit, we tried the Oriental Fish Soup, made with coconut milk and coriander, and fragrant with Thai spices (about $15). If you're going for lunch, try to get there before noon, because the fish market lunch is very popular with nearby office workers. We did, got a table in the window and watched the place fill up quickly.

We stayed at a hotel nearby and came here for a quick lunch. There was a selection of different fish. Tried the salted cod with olives and wolffish. Came with coffee, bread and hummus. Reasonable price amd fresh food. There was a selection of salads and marinated fish.

We accidentally stopped by this restaurant for lunch at the end of our tour of the island. The combo of the lunch were so delicious and fresh we all enjoyed very much. The price tag is so reasonable low compared to all other meals we have in Iceland. Since this is our last day before heading to the airport, the lady at the cashier gladly accepted all our remaining krona as part of the payment. We will definitely come back again when we were in Reykjavik.

Having eaten at Fylgifiskar number of times, I can't praise this restaurant enough. This is one of the few restaurants left in Reykjavík that are sensibly priced.
