Had a great meal here - the lamb chops were superb.
Fish starter with Himalayan rock salt turned out to be served on a huge piece of rock salt. Not sure I’d have it again the salt crept into the food just a little bit too much for me

We booked the Apotek restaurant for Christmas dinner. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere was intimate, despite the restaurant being full. The staff were attentive and accommodating. Our server was very familiar with the menu and appropriate wine pairings - we took all of his recommendations, and were not disappointed! The dishes used local ingredients with a modern Icelandic twist, and the presentation was gorgeous. The food was fresh and flavorful, from start to finish! If traveling to Iceland, this is a restaurant YOU MUST TRY!

Easy to find - in center of town. Warm and cosy Bar and very good restaurant. Had plenty of fish over the four days holiday this was some of the best and their lunchtime deal really amazing value. 3 different types and styles of fish - more than enough for 2/3 to share ISK 1,990 (say Pnds 12) Individual disshes far more expensive.
Salmon on block of Rock Salt - great but ISK 2690 (say Pnds 16. If you like really high qulity food. This is for you. Wine by the Glass ISK1890 (Say Pnds 11)

We went to Apótek for dinner as there was an Italian pop-up event. We had previously had a very pleasant dining experience with the Italian chef Matteo Cameli in another restaurant in Reykjavík a few years ago so we were looking forward to the evening. We arrived at the right time for our reservation and were seated immediately. There was loud dance music playing and the place was full and very noisy. We proceeded with our order and the waitress was very pleasant. We told her that the music was very loud and she agreed and said she would see if the volume could be lowered. The music was turned down a notch temporarily but seemed to be raised again later. We ordered a glass of cava to start with but waited for a very long time for the drink. We had also ordered a glass of wine to follow. We ordered the six course tasting menu and the first course was not served until 50 minutes after our arrival. We had not had our glasses of wine by then so we had reminded the waitress who said she would check this. We had finished our first course when the wine arrived with some explanation about the bottles having been hard to find. We found this hard to believe as this was the wine recommended for our meal. The next course was served after quite a long wait and then we had no cutlery. We tried to get the attention of a waiter or waitress but to no avail and in the end had to stand up and find a waitress who brought the cutlery. There seemed to be one person serving drinks, another one clearing glasses, the third clearing plates etc. We counted around 15 persons serving and clearing tables so there didn’t appear to be any lack of staff but the place was very disorganised. The lights were dimmed around two hours into our meal, when we still had not been served the last two courses. The tables had been fairly poorly lit before and this did not improve things. We had asked for truffles with our meal which had been advertised as one of the main attractions. On the recommendation of the kitchen we were supposed to have white truffles with one course and black truffles with another one. We did not have any white truffles served with our meal but the black truffles were there. When the bill came we were still charged the extra amount for the white truffles. Fortunately the waitress was quick to correct the bill when we pointed this out. The food was good but all the mix-ups, delays and the disturbing ambiance, described above, prevented us from enjoying it and made for a very disappointing experience.

Went here with my fiancee to treat ourselves to a nice evening out with good food and drink and we were not dissapointed! Our friendly and knowledgeable server (think he said his name was Daniel and that he was planning a trip to Australia?)
helped us make the meal reach the next level of enjoyment by making excellent suggestions for what we should order. We went for the 30 day dry aged bone in rib-eye by his suggestion and I can honestly say we have never had a more tender and delicious cut of meat.
The cocktails were world class, and we both fell in love with the "Hekla", an eruption of well combined flavors, we are coming back for more!
The dessert we have had before and we had to have it again! Double passion!
I refuse to believe you can find a more beautifully presented and to-die-for delicious dessert anywhere else in Reykjavik. Absolutely try it!
Thanks to the chefs of Apotek for the best meal and to our server for making it a special experience!

We had dinner here as it was around the corner from our hotel and it was recommended in our guide book. The restaurant is really smart and the staff were welcoming and polite. We had the fish and the chicken. The fish was really excellent, tasty and had some unusual twists to it. Unfortunately the chicken and the accompanying vegetables, though tasty, was served virtually cold, which was a pity.

My husband and I visited Apotek Restaurant on our first night in Reykjavik and were generally unimpressed with the food, service, and price.
We made a reservation for 21:30, which was the latest reservation available on a Tuesday evening, as they close at 23:00. We had given ourselves an extra 15 minutes to get there but we didn't anticipate how bad the parking situation would be. We received a call 4 minutes after our reservation time to ask if we were coming. We told the staff member we were in the area, just trying to find parking. He told us we needed to be there before 22:20 because the kitchen was closing. We reiterated that we were just looking for parking and should be there in a few minutes. He didn't respond to this point or offer any advice for parking and, again, repeated that we needed to be there before 22:20.
We finally managed to find parking a few blocks away and walked back to the restaurant, arriving at 21:44. The restaurant was still very full but we were seated quickly and fresh bread was brought over with whipped butter. For appetizers, we had the Cauliflower Two Ways, which was an interesting vegetarian appetizer. The baked cauliflower tasted delicious with the kale, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, and cauliflower puree. I didn't like the cauliflower foam as much because the cold foam seemed out of place against the baked cauliflower. My husband also ordered a Duck dish as an appetizer and said it was good.
For dinner, my husband had the Rack of Lamb and said it was pretty good. I had the beef tenderloin. The waiter didn't ask my temperature preferences and it was severely undercooked for me. The bearnaise sauce was tasty, though, and I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied the dish.
Our waiter switched shortly after we had ordered and the new waiter never asked if we wanted dessert, so that was where our meal ended, though it took us quite some time to flag the waiter down to get the check.
Our bill came to $186.31 USD, which was high for appetizers and entrees. To make matters worse, they double-charged us but later corrected it.
Overall, we were disappointed in our experience at Apotek and wouldn't likely return or recommend it.

I invited my wife for a lunch.Had never before been in Apotek restaurant but my wife had gone there several times and always liked it. We ordered a lunch offer “ triple fish feast” and it costed 1990 iskr person and the food was outstanding. It was three different kind of fish, plates good looking and the taste was great. We ordered one desert together wich was good and beautiful looking. 1690 iskr wich is the same price you pay for a pice of 🍰 cake in many coffee shops. Not often I give 5 but today I was so pleased that I decided to give a full house.

We went to Apotek based on a recommendation from our hotel. It was our arrival day & we had originally planned to get something more casual, but we decided we wanted to have casual fine dining & were so happy we changed our mind! Our only disappointment was due to the last minute reservation request, the hotel could only accommodate us for about 2 hours & we would have loved to do the tasting menu, but the waiter told us they needed 2.5 hours. They had another reservation for 7 pm & we had committed to knowing we had to be done by/before that before they accepted our reservation request. The only other slightly negative comment is it was kind of noisy.
Now onto the good…. freshly made sourdough bread with truffle butter & salt flakes were served first. Very good.
We each ordered an appetizer; my husband had the Arctic char on the salt block & I got the lamb tartare. The fish was pretty good, but needed a little something—the smoked cream cheese which accompanied my lamb was exactly what the fish needed. I shared a little but I know he would have preferred having it on his plate so he could have some of this delicious condiment with the Arctic char.
The lamb tartare is quite possibly one of the best things I’ve ever had & we’ve traveled all over the world & have dined at some of the best restaurants all over. I loved it so much, I kind of wish I hadn’t ordered my second appetizer (served with the main dishes) because I would have had a second helping. We are seriously considering canceling a reservation at another restaurant before we leave Iceland just because we both want to get the tartare! It isn’t just the meat which is ultra tender but all of the garnishes—each with a purpose.
For my husband’s main, he got the ling fish. It was good, maybe not excellent. I’m not a big eater so I normally get two appetizers. I ordered the waffle bites. I was a bit disappointed with it. The lamb shoulder was by far the best of the bites, but it didn’t blow me away like the tartare did. The trout was delicious with the fruit preserves. The duck was terrible—overdone, dry, lacking in flavor. The waffles were too small (flat) so you hardly got any taste of them & they were mostly soggy, too.
For dessert, I asked the waiter what he recommended. He suggested the chocolate rose or something I don’t remember. I wanted the chocolate & yuzu, but he said they were out of yuzu so we shared the chocolate rose. Quite unusual & tasty. Very happy with it, but who knows if the chocolate & yuzu would have been better.
Service was very good.

We were staying in the hotel above so made a booking here for our penultimate night in Reykjavik. The food is absolutely incredible and the flavours very unique. The staff were great and we still talk about how amazing our visit here was. Icelandic food is not cheap however we found the price of our meal to be similar to other establishments which given the quality on offer makes this incredible value. There is a full bar and cocktail service with a comprehensive wine list.

No, I would not recommend. Very noisy and hot local. Ordered wine, appetizer and meat dish for two persons. It tolk very long time and suddenly 4 waiters stood there and everything, wine, starters and maincourse came at the same time. A very lagre amount of meat for 2 people, so not possible to eat up. Twice while we were sitting and eating, the waitress came and asked if she could take the plates. At that price, everything should have been timed better, and such large portions of meat simply felt distasteful.

Great food and drinks. We actually went there twice during our visit, since we enjoyed it that much. Price level OK for the quality. Atmosphere busy (can be a bit too cosy/full at peak hours). The only downside is that the service is super efficient and that you are through your 3 course meal in under 45min. That also comes with the staff seeming to do more pushing customers through than true hospitality.

We had the most fabulous time at this gorgeous restaurant, with fab service from Stefan, lunch special of 3 fish blew our socks off. The crispy skin salmon with teriyaki sauce on the side was heavenly, ling (white fish) served with stewed veg, grilled cod with barley and grilled broccoli, and fab apple and greens and nuts salad outrageously fantastic. Fish was perfectly cooked, all of it! Unbelievable value at less than 2,000kr per person. This place is exquisite in every way, from Hendrix Gin soap bottles in the bathroom, to walls of backlit pharmacy jars, to live orchids and lush interiors. There is also front room to chill out with coffee and one of their superb patisserie selections. Book lunch here and delight in wonderful food that will cost you half of what you would pay here for dinner.

It’s not able to get a thing out of a menu without taking the hole menu. The restaurant is terrible it’s loud and there are too many tables in a too tiny room. It’s very dirty and the restrooms are disgusting. There is toilet paper lying all around the floor next to the toilet and in the toilet.
On the floor in the restaurant you can find almost everything like broken wineglasses or food.
Everywhere are plastic plants. If you go into the restroom you almost fall over a fake orchid.
You can’t even pay your bill. It doesn’t work.
The waiters and waitresses are very ignorant and snooty.
I’ll never visit this restaurant again.

Extremely poor service and average food for the cost. Took over 2.5 hours to have dinner. We had an 8 pm reservation and after being seated it seemed no one wanted to serve us for at least 20 minutes - no water, no greeting, etc… we were both quite hungry (I was obviously 6.5 months pregnant) and ordered right away once someone finally approached us to order. Appetizers came out in a relatively normal amount of time. We had the duck and waffles and octopus which were a nice size and good. My husband enjoyed his cocktail. From here on our it took over 1 hour to get our entrees. Every other table arriving after us was getting their food and entrees right away. Our table continued to be ignored by servers.
Finally when our main courses arrived a manager did approach us and apologize saying dessert would be on the house. Worried we would be there another hour, we agreed to try a dessert since they looked so good. The caramel Crankie did not disappoint and was delicious even though we were going on an over 2 hour dinner at this point. Finally when we got the bill - of course they still added the dessert in. When we told the waiter that we were told it would be comped he looked at us in disbelief. We had to point out the manager who said this and have him go talk to him. I have never been treated in such a way at any dining establishment in the United States or countless other countries I have ever traveled to and would recommend avoiding. There are plenty of better fine dining establishments and even mid range options with better food.
