About
THE HARBOUR The fresh and energetic atmosphere of the old harbour is part of the experience when you dine at Kopar. You can enjoy the view of the Esja mountain, a symbol of Reykjavik, while you watch the ships come into the harbour after a day at sea. THE FOOD At Kopar we choose local products, both from land and sea to create an adventurous menu! Traditional and old methods and recipes meet modern and new ingredients, giving dishes a surprising twist. For exemple, Kopar was the first restaurant in Iceland to serve Icelandic rockcrab. THE DRINKS Surprise and seductive are the keywords at the bar. Traditional cocktails meet new waves of the cocktail world. You can enjoy a pre-drink on our terrace by the harbor or sit outside after dinner with coffee and cognac. We have a cozy bar lounge with a swing where you can enjoy your drinks inside as well. The pride of the bar is the Icelandic fisherman’s Collection, a wall with an incredible selection of cognac and whiskey.

Fantastic food particularly the tuna tanaka, small and perfect. Managed a gluten intolerant member of our party so well. Staff helpful. Lovely atmosphere. Strongly recommended. Lovely atmosphere and view of the harbour

30th Wedding anniversary dinner. A lot of the “Best Restaurants” in Reykjavik seem to serve both Minke Whale and Puffin- a definite no no. Kopar was Whale centre recommended as Whale friendly and what a good choice. The best meal we have had in a week here in Iceland. Crab cake starter and crab 3 ways was a cascade of tastes and the main Tusk fish, which was new to us was extraordinary. Home made sourdough bread and lavender butter was great. Friendly staff , nice decor and atmosphere. Couldn’t recommend highly enough

Ate tonight at Kopar. More or less a random pick having walked past last night. It may not be the cheapest in Reykjavik and the menu is ‘quite tight’ for choice but the fish cookery is exceptional and the desserts are simply splendid. Staff very friendly and helpful. I doubt that we will see a better meal in Iceland. If you like fish, this is it!

Very easy to book a table using the online facility. Sometimes as a solo diner you get tucked into a corner but I was taken to my table on the first floor, situated next to a window with nice views of the harbour. It was my last evening in Iceland and wanted to enjoy a good meal so followed the recommendation of my guide Magnus who works for Your Day Tours. He particularly mentioned the crab soup. I ordered the Fish Adventure for ISK 7,900 which was a Three Course Menu of Rock crab soup, Catch of the day finishing with Daim cheesecake and sorbet. The crab soup was extremely tasty and served with bread and violet butter. The catch of the day was Ling and Arctic Char served with quinoa and roasted vegetables. I had a tasty IPA with the meal and finished with a Brennivin served on crushed ice. Bearing in mind the quality of the food and the dining experience I thought the final bill was very reasonable. It was a fitting end to a fantastic holiday.

Well, it would be nice if a surprise on New Year was a nice one, but it was not here. Everyone arrived for an early seating and filled the restaurant at once after all queuing outside. The staff became immediately overwhelmed by the volume of customers. The food was really excellent from start to finish with an interesting original menu. The place charged about 14000 kr per person for the feast; fair enough! But, now for the irritating surprise that is always sure to turn me off any restaurant. The wine list offered numerous bottles with Moët et Chandon rose champagne for about 20900 kr. This is already a HUGE markup from the Icelandic liquor store where the bottle sell for 80000, I believe. When our bill arrived, the bottle was jacked up to 23900. Apparently, KOPAR felt it deserved to “gouge” more on an already outrageously huge markup on the occasion of New Year. This, in my opinion, moves into ripoff territory! The service was just adequate and really could not keep up. We waited 45 minutes to get the bill and pay in the end. Great food, friendly but overwhelmed and ultimately mediocre service and a rude surprise at the end. 6.5/10

Towards the end of our stay in Iceland we asked some Reykjavik locals for their recommendations for restaurants we should not miss before leaving. They said we should try Kopar for good seafood and we are so happy that we took them up on their advice. The scallops starter was fantastic! My partner had the cod 'tongues' to start and he was a bit disappointed because he had not realised that they came deep-fried, but everything else was great. We had the fish of the day for our mains and it was absolutely perfect. All in all: really delicious.

Really disappointing experience at Kopar. We booked this through Special Tours as a combo with the northern lights cruise. The restaurant itself were not at fault for the ordeal but the staff did not handle things well for us. We turned up with our voucher, expecting the meal to be booked by the operator. The hostess seemed to have absolutely no clue what this dining experience was - even though it became apparent later on that we were on the same cruise as people we saw leaving the restaurant having done the same thing. We were ushered out by her without any further investigation. I am still waiting to find out if we will be refunded as the tour operator said we would still be charged by the restaurant as a no show. It was really disappointing as I had spent months looking forward to the meal - felt like more could have been done by the staff when we were there.

Ordering 'only' two dishes at a time does not mean you get any less for your money. I tried everything I had an eye on, and had some things twice- but wasted not a single serving. Could not ask for a better bargain. We also had bottomless drinks, and I don't think our glasses stayed empty for more than a minute at a time, thanks to our waitress Alina, who was extremely attentive and polite, even with two 5+people groups on either side of us. Fantastic way to get back into the world after social isolation.

We wanted a nice restaurant for our last night in Reykjavik, and this was highly recommended by the hotel. Great location on the harbor, small and casual but the food was excellent. Prices are a little more than average for Reykjavik, but not bad for such an expensive city. No one had the appetite for the 6-course dinner, but the men both had the 3-course seafood meal (about $60). The ladies ordered a la carte, rock crab soup was a hit ($20) , and the catch of the day was an excellent white fish ($35). Just a great meal with a nice view.

I had been to Kopar about 7 years ago, and enjoyed the experience. My husband and I had a memorable and delightful experience this time, too! From the very beginning, we felt welcomed and so well cared for. Our server and her supervisor (Alina and Draga) were very attentive without being intrusive and we felt quite pampered. The food was delicious. We selected the 6 course meal, and were so glad we did. Each dish was served with incredibly beautiful plating, and explained to us as it was put at our places. It was very apparent that your staff take both pride and pleasure in their work, and the customer service was brilliant. I will definitely be back, and will recommend you to anyone I know who will be traveling to Reykjavik.!

Extremely nice atmosphere and excellent service. We went to Kopar for a “bottomless brunch” with a group of 16 people. We could order two dishes at a time and we could order endless amount of drinks with it. The staff was very attentive and was constantly in sight and checking on us politely. I highly recommend this place! Nice view over the harbor and good music.

My partner and I ate at Kopar on 15 March before our Northern Lights boat tour and we were not disappointed. Aside from it’s excellent location next to the harbour and our brilliant host, Amélie who was very attentive throughout our meal, the food itself was delicious and worth every penny. I had the Scallops to start, Crown of Lamb for main and my partner and I shared the Adventure Time trio of desserts. My partner is vegetarian and had the Beetroot soup and Quinoa-tempeh. I found the food to be tasty and innovative, The scallops tasted fresh and the lamb was well cooked. The butter served with the bread for the table was mixed with skyr and flavoured with violets and liquorice salt and was a bit hit. I really recommend eating at Kopar and would love to return!

Our family of four (a couple of foodies in our late 40s, a 19 yo discerning carnivore and a 13 yo who is used to being catered for by a foodie!) were all highly impressed by the care and quality of the food presented to us on Christmas Eve 2022. From the violet and liquorice salt butter for our bread and the signature Christmas cocktails and mocktails a high standard was set early. The rock crab and langoustine soup had a depth of flavour that could only come from roasted shells and some serious care and attention, the touches of genius that were the crispy, earthy beansprouts and irony spinach, topped with a basil oil speaks to the creativity of the chef. Our 13 yo said the lamb tartar was the best thing she’d ever tasted and could have had a eaten a loaded plate of the tasty little bites! The reindeer fillet with blueberry demi glaze was melt in your mouth tender, accompanied by roasted beetroot (my favourite) , candied pecans and a perfectly roasted hasselback potato. In the spirit of transparency we didn’t like the white chocolate “brownie”, it was soaked in some sort syrup that made it dense and ever so sweet. The raspberry sorbet was dreamy though. A note about service: We had a new waiter who kept forgetting our table, which was awkward as it was a set menu with a second seating following ours. We were there for over an hour before we got our first course and I had to ask for our meal. They then confused our order (we asked for four of the same meal so not sure how that could be confused) and brought a vegetarian soup so we had to send it back. We had three out of four courses in very quick succession and then there was another long delay before we got dessert. Our plates for dessert weren’t cleared and we weren’t ever offered coffee. However the hostess had noted that we’d not received a good service so was very generous about our bill. However the waiter then brought us the full bill so there was a bit of embarrassment about that! All in all I’d say the food was amazing, definitely some of the best we’ve had in Iceland and excellent compared to other restaurants we’ve visited around the world. I think we were just unlucky on the night to get a new waiter who seemed overwhelmed.

I booked the package that Kopar offers with Harpa yatchs to celebrate my partner and I’s anniversary. The package offered a 45 minute sail around the harbour of Reykjavík followed by a three course meal at Kopar. Both parts were equally amazing. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was very good. We had scallops to start which was my favourite course, followed by the main of catch of the day (ling) served with vegetables. The main tasted delicious, was excellently cooked and presented, and was a good portion size. For dessert we had daim cheesecake with lemon sorbet which again was excellent. We also has two cocktails which were really good. Overall the experience was outstanding value for money and the food was some of the best I’ve eaten. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food with seasoning that was just right. Very good service and great location. Starters are small , you don’t get offered a lot of bread to start (which comes with amazing house butter) but then you understand why. Mains are big! And really really good!
