We booked in advance but walk-ins were welcome. The staff are friendly and the menu extensive for the small size of the restaurant - we had goose and Arctic char for mains and both were delicious. Highly recommended restaurant. As a bonus, the restaurant has...More

One of our best meals ever, anywhere. We travel a lot. Fabulous fresh local food in restaurant attached to the deli. Innovative ingredient combinations well cooked and hearty portions, not nouvelle cuisine! You won't leave still hungry. Not cheap but hey, it is Iceland, it...More

Our first food experience in Reykjavik as we just had arrived the city and were hungry. Delisious mushroom soup and really good bread along with it.

A really lovely place to sit and eat some exceptionally good Icelandic food. The beer was good, the staff friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and the food brilliant. Either book for an early slot before 1900 or go later for walk ins with no reservation needed...More

The food in Reykjavik has been outstanding but this place was the best of the lot. Minke Whale, Arctic Char and then French Chocolate cake made for a terrific set meal. Nice ambiance and top service finished off a great night. Can't get over how...More

We had a light lunch there by ordering the fish soup as main dish. We also tried the starter of salmon which was very fresh and tender. Although the soup was a bit salty to us, the soup was filled with fish and scallops. The...More

Reservations needed. 4 girls tried many dishes. Even the bread basket was good. My favorite was the arctic char. The shrimp soup was okay.

I was able to get a table walking in at about 1:30 PM, but would suggest getting reservations.

Food connoisseurs and other gastronomes have ever since the year 2000 slipped into our basement during lunch hour to feast on various delicacies. But of course everyone knows that because ever since the restaurant opened for business it has been the least kept secret in the area. Ostabuðin has truly been an oasis on Skolavorðustigur because we have tried our best to offer a wide varaity of fresh and curious products which have tickled our patrons taste buds and in turn trickled salivating reflexes in the city center. Even though we have taken some pride in the queue that has formed outside our entrance every single day during lunch break for the past 15 years we have finally expanded our premises. Thus we can now welcome our patrons from dawn til dusk and offer them a variety of fish and meat dishes which we have refined with passion. Of course there is also a lot of cheese on the menu and now we can also serve wine with our fare. Our daily specials always include both a fish dish and a soup during lunch hour on weekdays. Do not hesitate to ask what is on offer today. Also, our seafood soup never disappoints. Our guests might have to share tables during the lunch hour rush but who knows – maybe you will make new friends. Bon appetit, Joi.
